don't know how you are only gonna spend $100 on porting... you do know to port the engine, you need to disassemble it, right?

vegeta6263 05-08-03 01:41 PM

yeah i do know... i have to dissasseble the engine but this guy in jacksonvile, fl is gonna do a minor porting job on the housings for like 100.00 he said. he said all ill get is like 10 to 15hp so I was like thats okey!

Joonas 05-08-03 02:18 PM

At very least you'll need a overhall gasket set to re-assemble the engine which is at least $150, plus who is poping the motor apart??? You??? Most people charge at least $1000 for a rebuild.

vegeta6263 05-08-03 03:01 PM

All taken care of senor ( the gasket kit is included) i bought it as a whole.
the rotor kit and the gasket kit plus the corner seals which are not covered on the rotor kit ). Yeah im popping the engine out myself and rebuilding it myself!

I didnt rent a tool for removing the flywheel. Lots of work and some rigging got that done, there is $50 gone but more time.

if u didn't iuse a flywheel tool
what did use? how did u get it out?

Cory Simpson 05-10-03 09:44 PM

I believe that autozone and advanced auto parts, and all those automobile parts store's will loan you specialty tools. And also if you don't have an air wrench or a flywheel lock you are going to have to wressle with the big nut that holds the fly wheel on.

Wankel7 05-11-03 02:14 PM

Ok, cost to get flywheel on and off.

$5 or a case of beer. Just take the engine to a truck repair shop...and ask if they can buzz it off for you real fast. Helps if you already have the socket. But they will probabaly do it for you.

Also, you should have some money set aside for the unfortunate. What if your housings are trash?

hypntyz7 05-15-03 04:57 PM

$1150 plus parts/materials?? Shit...I woulda built it for you with a port, and changed the flywheel for you for $1200 and shipping.

vegeta6263 05-15-03 05:10 PM

LOL.. Sorry i must of confused you. Kevin LAnders great rotary god. I was gonna contact you.. but they are 2 things that changed my mind.
1. I want to gain experience.. I love my rx-7 a lot like most of us do.. most more than their girlfriends..hahaha...I have never met a challenge of this nature .. and i want to try my hardest for evrything to go ok. I have both videos from atkins and 4 of my friends are helping me out.. measuring everything and labeling..stuff.

2. it was 840 dollars for the entire rebuild kit ( including everything except rotor bearings) plus the gasket kit and the overhaul video. I got all this cheap in my opinion because blackrx7 hooked me up . ( thanx man )
146.00 on a new oem radiator
55.00 in new radiator cap, thermostat, both upper and lower radiator hoses.
55.00 new NGK spark Plugs and NKG PLUGS

3. in the long run urs would of still being a great idea since u use rotor housings less than 100k old and mine are 155k but i have a feeling they be in okey shape ill post pictures and everything.

Project Begins= MAY 17th!
