Loosening Banjo Bolts On Oil Cooler
All;
I couldn't find what I wanted from 'search' so I'm asking here. I have the cooler out of my '88 base model and I need to replace the hoses. Can anyone recommend a method of loosening the banjo bolts attaching the hoses to the cooler without damaging the cooler. These bolts have never been loosened before and that cooler seems mighty delicate. Any suggections. Thanks. Babbs |
I used a 1/2 ratchet with 23mm socket to remove mine.

It's not that bad, just brace the cooler on some cardboard and use a big breaker ratchet & a 23mm socket. If you don't have that size of socket, a large crescent wrench will do. It's far easier with the cooler out of the car; getting them loose with the cooler bolted in is nearly impossible.

impact gun and they are off in 2 seconds.

+1 for impact gun

+2 Trying to removing them in-car w/ a wrench just wants to twist up the mounting bracket

I stepped on the oil cooler to brace it worked fine.

Thanks loads everyone. I have pretty well every size socket except the 23mm! I'm getting the car ready for my intro road racing course and those lines were starting to leak.
