Found this site on the nasioc forums...got some good reviews...they got other FC engines...but this one looks like they did a comp test on it...doesnt look like they're doin the test right butn not sure...u guys think its legit??

I would stay away from such places, unless you get an awesome deal on a motor so you can get it rebuilt for a reasonable amount

You don't need a mazda rotary compression tester. You can use a normal piston engine compression tester if you remove the valve or hold it down so you can see all faces of the rotor.

I'd ask them to redo the test so you can see the individual bounces. It's still a gamble though. Pretty much anything rotary is a gamble though in my experiences so far. idk.

Are you getting an engine to rebuild or hoping to install it as-is? most jdm engines need to be rebuilt. That price is also kinda high and I'm sure you can find an importer closer to you regardless so you don't have to pay big shipping charges. There is probably only one jdm engine importer than I would trust to install the engine as-is and that is japan2la (who is a well known forum member and you can check his fdbck) because he specializes in rotaries and get all of his engines out of running cars. Many jdm rotary engines that are exported are junkyard engines that sit outside and come from beat up cars. Also most companies will not warranty a rotary engine.

Highly suggest against buying that one. Engines sold with no warranty, ship from canada, no coolant system pressure test are all red flags to stay away. Look up tigerjapanese on this forum for engines that operate the same way and seem legit.

Japan2la engine. Expensive as fyork.. but he uses rotary comp tester.
My engine arrived with 110 psi total.comp. on both rotors. After Abel performance blew my shit.on the.dyno. the engine was opened. Undamaged parts were a 9/10. It was a solid engine.

IF that engine in the pics is the engine you will get, its got the OEM drive belts, and spark plug wires, so it doesn't look like its been messed with.

however its still 25 years old, so it could have been bad 24 years ago!

i'd still be weary that all imported engines have already been pillaged, even a blown engine can build plenty of compression if you pour a quart of oil into it. it's not a bad place to start if you don't have any of the parts for the turbo swap, but plan on rebuilding it and that not all the internal parts will be even usable, get a return guarantee if possible.

Unfortunately, most jdm engine importers offer absolutely no warranty on rotary engines. :icon_tdow You better be damn sure thats a good engine. Scary shit, cross fingers. :(

there are a few importers here in orlando. JDMTech and JDM orlando. i think i'm gonna go and see what kinda condition the motors are here then decide what I'll do.

The reason why I was asking about this site is because 3 of my friends have ordered engines from Osaka JDM Motors - JDM Engines, Cars and Parts and had a decent experience. 10 Total engines have been ordered within the past 3 years and 9 of them were good. the other had no compression in the rear rotor. Now thats what you call luck right there.

From reading review on different importers online, Home - JDM RACING MOTORS has the least amount of complaints from all the forums i have read from and the ratio between praises/complaints is a lot higher as well.

I think what I'll do if I cant find a motor here in orlando is just try to budget a rebuild when i'm ordering an engine from one of these sites.

i also tried to contact Japan2LA about a JSPEC but i think he doesnt have any on stock right now. He quoted me a doable price a while ago...prices might have gone up...idk...we'll see...thanks for the insight guys

Honestly. I'm a newb when in comes to anything mechanical. I've had my 2nd and 3rd FC for about a year now and i'm just starting to do some things on my own. I always have my friends there though looking over my shoulder.

If you guys have any other inputs...that'd be great

Pretty much what i'm planning for the car is the have a Daily Drifter...something that i can daily but also have fun with...nothing competetive(at least right now)...noo crazy power(250-300 at most)...no crazy suspension

i'd go with Japan2LA for an imported engine, earlier in the game when more good engines were around it was less of a gamble getting a good engine from an importer, these days more than half are likely junk.
