I am going to look at a 1987 Turbo II car this upcoming weekend. It has some mods done to it such as, larger turbo, injectors, and a Haltech ECU. This car ran before installing the Haltech.

What are some things to look for on a used FC? I am trying to figure out what reliability mods should be done. I am a noob to RX/Rotary engines. I understand two strokes and basic mechanics, but anything rotary or model specific issues to look out for let me know.

A warm, potential welcome to the FC community. There's very helpful site called 'FC3Spro' it has a lot of info for beginners and experienced Rotary owners (and in your case potential owners) alike. Just like when buying any car due diligence is needed, a compression test on the engine is advisable without any receipts for a rebuild and modified cars are always tricky. I don't know anything about this car. Let's just put that out there. I have 3 rx7s and every time I can upgrade, I look to buy. For the money your spending I would look elsewhere. The mileage has not been displayed which tell me I'm not paying 7500 for an 87. But that's me. It may not matter to some but the way the stereo was thrown in bothers me. If you are a noob and looking for a turbo Rx7, you can find a stock one with lower miles and enjoy learning about these cars as you mod it if you want. It's a big part of the fun of owning one of these cars. But as said before, if you really want THIS car, I would do a compression test. Look under the car for rust. If you see a little rust, keep looking deeper for more. I would not pay 7500 for a car with rust. If your just looking for an rx7 to beat up on and the money doesn't matter, go for it. My 2 cents is all this is.

Saying a car needs a tune is one way of hiding engine issues that may require a rebuild. I'd check compression with a rotary compression tester.

Hehe.... that is my old car. When I sold it it had a running N/A S4 engine that was rebuilt probably 200miles before I bought it. I had started planning to go 20B until my daily driver also bit the dust. The car is a GXL BTW. It has been sold 2-3 times since I brought it back from death...

It was sloppy how it was wired as well as how the radio/ECU was run. They just wanted to get the motor running and not make it look nice. It's not a real turbo II as said above. The pros were good aftermarket components, no rust.

I hope you chose to pass on the car. There are much better unmolested examples at that price point.
