I use a Miata shift knob on my S5... great feel in the hand, nice and short, was like 5 bucks on ebay.

My brother had one of those in his 70's Firebird- aka "the red rooster"

that short shifter looks exactly like the stock one... isn't the stock one really short anyways?

its 60% shorter throw, yes it is shorter and it looks like the stock one becuase it was made to bolt right in. there is a couple other members on this forum that have this as well and love it.

The .45 shifter just amused me, I'm getting one of the hurst's like another poster has (not like the one he posted, but like he said close. coming out of a '68 nova so probably just like his)

That MR knob must get super hot and can't be too heavy being aluminum, but it is pretty cool looking...

I'm going to run by AZ and check out that knockoff knob, it may be decent enough for ~$15. I'm loooking for a HEAVY knob to ease the dreaded "MT short shifter rattle", they told me a heavy knob will most likely stop the rattle. I'd like to make one out of lead...

Is it possible to machine your own short shifter? I'm curious, since I've got billet aluminum, a lathe and a milling machine. Not that I'd do it, per se, because I like living, but could it be done?

Anything can be made provided you have the material & knowledge of how to use the tools.

Mazdaspeed Shift Knobs
I'm looking to get the carbon or leather one.

ProjectRESuperG Jun 2, 2005 03:26 PM

I believe the HKS don't come in 12x1.5 for the S4 people, I tried looking for that one, can never find it, looks cool though. Ditto with the Mazdaspeed knobs.

Mr. ALEX EGGO full titanium shift knob

I'm still debating whether or not I should buy this. I've felt it before and its very light but I've heard that it's better to have a heavier shift knob.

I have the magnum pearl knob in my s4, on a mazdatrix short-throw S4 shifter. I love the combo, it's awesome.

If anyone wants to thread an s5 knob (or FD, miata, or any of that thread) onto your s4 shifter, you can drill and tap the knob like I did. If you want the exact drill bit and tap, I'll sell it to ya cheap (bought them new, used once). I looked all over the 'net for a knob that threads on the s4 shifter, I guess it's a really odd size for shifters.
