Looking for cheap/decent HID conversion
 

Hello, Im looking into getting some HID's for my FC. The stock halogens just arent cutting it anymore. I was wondering if there is a cheaper way to get the HID's than the full bi exon 800$ setup, that is decent enough so it wont blind other drivers. I have done HID swap on my other newer car, and it looks like its going to be different with the pop up lamps.

original headlights look the best, they fit the age of our cars

I really like my Hella H4 conversion kit - works really good with a great pattern and sharp cutoffs. Plus it was a WHOLE lot cheaper and easier than say a HID conversion.

I believe the OP is more concerned about the ability of the lights to light the road. A saftey and drivability issue.

Icemark has really good thread in the achives on HID's and the difference between the cheap kits on Ebay for $100 and a true HID like the retrofit linked to above.

Not to be a thread jacking doucher but is there a write up or link floating around to this hella conversion? Is it plug and play, anyone have pics of the part and end result w/ cutoff pics?

And, to cut to the chase, it's all about the beam cut off and whether you're blinding or not blinding oncoming traffic first. How well it lights up the road second.

I've got CIBIE housings and the HID kit I bought from Icemark a number of years ago and installed into my S4 TurboVert. I had to set the cut off extra low since it isn't sharp like the one Sakebomb Garage or the guy SGT linked to, TurboIIrotary. And when I hit high beams, the immediate lighting in front of the car went dark as all that happens is the light that the beam simply redirected from low to higher. To fill what then becomes a relatively dark area, I had to suppliment my lighting with driving lights to create a filled up lite area. It actually works really well all things considered.

However, Sakebombs kit is hella expensive and a PITA to install. But it works AMAZING installed in my S5 TurboVert!! Much better than my H4/HID/Driving Light set up.

But the real score now seems to be, for about half the price of Sakebombs, the one TurboIIrotary makes is the best compromise available for our cars. Certainly seems to be a much easier install than Sakebombs. Has proper cut off, but mayby not quite the lumens as Sakebombs. But I'll bet equal to or better lumens than H4 housings provide with HID bulbs since H4's comparatively scatter the light. If I wasn't already so invested, I'd absolutely get it for my S4. If he offered it for FB's, I buy one right now.

Yea i did alittle more searching and im probably going to go with the Hella H4 conversion and not put HID's in but just some philips bright bulbs and see what the cutoff looks like

cheep shit is in china. SURE they work for awhile. But tons of Tinkering with the Headlamps and Bulbs, The cheaper you get the More problems ya get. This i know well. You really want SUPER Cheap HID's going down the Road at Midnight with RAIN coming down? Dont matter how Bright they are, I Dont even Trust Mine. Thats why I have to Carry Spare Halligen Lamps in my Storage Compartment, Besides, when a bulb or ballast go out, Its not like you can Stop in to your Local parts store and pick up a new one. Its just very painful when getting parts,

Why not just grab a set of Sylvania Silverstar headlights and call it a day?

i have some silverstar H4 bulbs that are only a year old I took out of my car if anyone needs

will the h4 conversion bulbs connect right up to the stock plug?

I have H4 silver stars, they were a big improvement over the GE halogens that came in the car. That being said, they don't really compare to real HID's. Although I never really understood why everyone feels like they need them anyway, under what driving conditions are HIDs a requirement?
