longer wheel studs
 

i need some wheel studs that are about 1/4" longer than stock, anyone know where i can get some? mazdatrix doesnt seem to have any, and i cant find them at the local auto stores

If you want much longer than stock, Moroso makes a long stud in 12 X 1.5mm that I use on my FB. This part was intended for late model GM vehicles. These are much longer, however, and you would have to cut them if you plan to use lug nuts with a closed end. These are available through Summit, Jegs, etc.

If you want something that is exactly 1/4" longer without cutting, you might try some other parts stores, like NAPA or the junkyard (bring a 12 X 1.5mm lug nut to check thread pitch and a ruler to check length).

Yep, look for 93-02 Camaro hardened studs, Summit carries them. I use them on my race FC.

So what's the procedure? Just slap them in and go?

I always hear things about reaming the holes to the right size for the knurls. Is that size printed on the packet?

ARP does provide knurl dimensions, but it seems to fit right into the stock FC hubs.

We use hammers to pound out the original studs.
Using a metal spacer and tightening the lug nut on top of that is the best method I've heard of when installing the new studs.

The studs will fit right into the stock location, no reaming necessary.

I used a press to pop them out, and an old lug nut to pull them on.

The ARP ones fit like they were designed to go in RX-7's. I had the shop put in the rears while my rear wheel bearings were being replaced, so I can't comment on their installation. For the fronts, just pound them out with a hammer and you can take the hubs off and pound the new ones in from behind (I supported the hub with a vice). This also gives you an opportunity to check the front bearings and re-grease them.

Whats the stock stud length for a fc stud?

Watch it - front and rear are different lengths.
