Long time to start then stalls......

Alright, so I had this problem right. When I would start the car, it would do its whole warm up cycle thing and then immediately thereafter stall. Like any sensible person, I went to the search topics and found a few answers. I troubleshooted and nothing seemed to work for me. Plus I didn't want to have to buy an AFM. So, since I didn't see this anywhere in the other threads I decided to go ahead and post for your viewing pleasures. My problem was a $22 temp sensor.
Looks ok right?

Think again.......

I'm not for sure if that is what was causing it, but i would definitely attribute a bulk of the problem to that sensor. I'll check back!

sounds like a Vacuum leak to me. I have a cracked TID and its leaking vacuum, so my car won't idle below 1000RPM, and its a lumpy idle at that.

you can see the FSM for free HERE

Also, thats your coolant sensor, and the fast idle is controlled by the fast idle cam in the TB. I doubt that that sensor is causing your car to stall, but it should DEFINITELY be replaced before you go driving

do you have any throttle response?

Burnin_streets 12-19-07 02:11 PM

Osirus: Checked for vac leaks. Saw one, and replaced it; in the process I replaced a bunch of other vac lines for the hell of it. Well even if it is a coolant sensor, it is giving a temp reading to the ecu, but you got me there ;).

T2: I do have throttle response, for the most part. Why do you ask?

So in response to checking back, it was the sensor. I get better acceleration, throttle response, starting abilities (lol) and I'm hoping better gas mileage. The only thing now is to replace the O2 sensor! yeay!!! lol. Hope this helps someone in the future.

Oh, I'm also going to check the timing.....

turboIIrotary 12-20-07 04:01 PM

nvm i misread something

oh....lol!

did you go to the dealer or like autozone? I paid about $40 for mine at the dealer, but Advance Auto Parts had one for $15. I trusted oem though, which is made by Denso.

I went to NAPA....I like their products and I've been a loyal customer since day one. I wouldn't go to the dealer....they are con artists.
