Long Slow Road To Getting My TII Back On The Road

So I picked up my first Rotary vehicle last April, I just got back from school and have been working on diagnosing/now rebuilding the engine. I'm not sure the extent of the damage internally yet, but I've been working on cleaning the engine and the rest of the car up.

But for starters while waiting to get a socket to pull the flywheel nut off I cleaned up the wheels, (I'll put my flame suit on for this) and sprayed them a dark gray...they sure as hell look a whole bunch better...

I also used a wire brush and cleaned up the intake and I came across some unnerving stuff on the lower side of the butterfly valves of the intake....does this signal any larger problems?

But the Intercooler side of the valves looks just fine...

Wow looks great!! jst looks like alot of carbon buildup....wat did you use to clean and polish up the intake???

I used this

attached on a drill, plus some steel wool and a bit of elbow grease.

But why is the carbon buildup only on the side of the throttle body that leads to the UIM and not on the side that comes from the intercooler?

Good job cleaning, but you also need to take the time to test all your wiring and sensors (like that TPS in the pic) if you ever want the car to run right

So with some odd time on my hands I also decided to keep painting and give the Brake Calipers a new set of red paint...I'd give myself a B- on the work

And while I was at it I snapped a few quick photos of the Brake Rotors...Question to the more knowledgeable: What do I have to do to make these Road Worthy yet again?

And can anyone tell from this pic if the pads are any good? Or tell me how to check to see if they are in need of replacement?

the pads look pretty new there bad when they start getting into the rear metal plate, and another way to tell is that your caliper has to be pushed all the way in to slide it over the rotor when new

Bump.....what should I do with the brake rotors?

Replace them! They are thin as shit!

Also, they only cost about $35 / rotor at NAPA.
