Long cranking on cold starts?
 

Takes me at least 30 seconds of cranking to get the car to fire up, brand new starter and plug wires, plugs are very old, about 30k on rebuild. The problem arose when we started getting 20- degree weather. While cranking and pushing the gas pedal about half way down I hear random backfires from my exhaust, car runs great after started. Also starts perfectly when being started after warmup. Hasn't gotten to the point where I've had to pull the INJ fuse and unflood it, maybe it floods or its a spark problem? Only happens when it sits overnight, just trying to fix it before it bites me in the ass lol. Today was the 3rd morning it happened and it was 10 degrees out. Are our cars usually this hard to start in the cold winters?

mines doing the same thing, started when temps went down to 04 or less when over night, no clue over here either.

Wierd, btw after its started for the first like 5 minutes I see ~2 feet of white smoke out of the exhaust, hasn't given me any problems lately besides an intermittent CEL which I was told was a TPS, replaced it with a used one and now it gets better gas mileage :)

na, my tps is fine, and no smoke, unless i try and crank....dies...and then restart, which smells like gas, so im assuming im flooding it....my thought is leaking injectors...but that may just be my case, just my .02

hey, sorry not to hijack your thread but my car started to do the same exact thing. when it starts lots of white smoke, then gone after warm up. still runs really strong, but i see it runs a little hotter then usual(not overheating). again sorry to hijack.

sub zero starting? as far as i know, mine doesnt have that....

Here is one for ya. I live in hot south florida and if I dont drive my car for a week or two its hell to start but once it is started and warmed up it will fire like a champ everytime. It only happens when I dont drive the car for long periods so I am guessing its probably a normal thing, I have no temp problems or anything

I've sorta got that problem. It was/ still is a broken coolant temperature sensor connector. It happens for me whenever I cold start it in temps below 70F.

You also might want to make sure you have the correct oil in your engine for such cold temperatures.

tell ya..it does sound Normal to have fuel in after long period of the car been there,Inactive..in the cold,everything Gets "wonky",. The car will act Like ASS!..But the Engine,once it gets Going Loves the cold air been sucked into the Intake(trust me..I'm in Canoe Country!..with a Seven!)..Now,to the Thread Starter,Get NEW plugs..It Is Freakin Amazing What New Plugs can Do!..It causes your Car to Actually Start!!..oil in winter:10W30...also look at something a Little Lighter for the Trans/differential Too.if you have 80W90 in there,It turns to Like Molasses at about Freezing..REAL THICK!..good Luck!
