Logicon-Rebuild or leave it the hell alone?
 

My fan control switch on my logicon, only works on full blast. In other words, when you move the slider to the right just a hair, it turns on full blast. Not really a horrible problem, but annoying nonetheless. Am I gong to cause more problems cracking it open to fix it, or should i just learn to live with it?

hmmmm, it may never work again if opened, but on the other hand that would drive me to distraction.

The soldering in them is usually terrible. Pull it apart and solder you heart out. Note this fixed part of mine in the end I just sourced a 2nd hand one that worked.

I vote pull it apart. Its adventuresome to get all of the wiring harness for the logicon unplugged to get it out of its perch, and is rather interesting inside. If you are at all gentle and skilled with basic tools, you'll enjoy it, and might even solve your problem. Its all solid state, so there are few things to repair mechanically, but ya might get lucky.

If you do break something, a replacement unit is pretty cheap here or eBay.

I would try to do something about it.

Eventually it will turn out like mine.

I have to run the dial back and fourth (can take up to 10 minutes or more!) from low to high until it kicks on, in full-blast, no matter what. Should it decide to kick on at all.

Burn it.

rebuild it... my had a whole bunch of burnt out lights and burnt out resistors. I just kept on replacing parts until it worked.

Yeah man, you have to use your trade skills on your FC. I don't do circuits, only mechanical stuff, which is why my logicon is in a box of useless junk and I am using a wire to manipulate the heater control for now. Later on, there will just be three choke cables and a rheostat placed innocuously under a few guages on what is left of my center console. ;)

But you . . you need to troubleshoot that thing and also fix your wiper switch. You're an electrical engineer.

Try spraying some contact cleaner in the slide control slot & work it in.
That won't fix a bad connection, but it might get the low speed range working.

If that does not fix it, then resolder the eyelets where the connector pins meet the PCB.

buy a used one...

You'll probably end up with the same problems. Any cold-solder issues must be addressed.

I think I'll just be adventurous and pull the damn thing out and solder it. I finally have every other thing in the car working finally. Every light, every buzzer. I cant believe how shitty the solders are sometimes, but hey, It got me a really nice car for cheap.

Errr, uhhhhh, I had that problem for a couple of years. I traced it not to the Logicon.......but the resistors on the fan/blower assy. Do your self a favor. Get one out of the wreckyard and instll it(blower and housing). The blower is not the problem but the resistors/transitor mounted ON the housing for the fan. Buy the whole shebang. What??? 10-15 bucks?
