logicon bulb replacement
 

so how is the difficulty?? is there small parts to worry about breaking when i take it apart?? is it just a LED i can pick up at my local napa store?? is there a write up somewhere?

i second this.... i have super white leds that i want to replace them with. thanks.

i seen icemark has the bulb's but i dont want to be ripping it apart if the circuit boards are able to be taken out with ease or whatever you need to do....

There are both Light bulbs and LEDs in the Logicon.

The Radio shack bulb that 88rxn/a mentions won't work in the light bulb socket. It is too small.

Both Mazdatrix and myself stock the replacement light bulbs. It took me 3 years to find the actual correct replacement light bulb, so that I didn't have to buy them from Mazda. It is an unusual size and brightness, and is a 14 volt bulb, not a 12 volt one.

The LEDs can be changed, but there are mutiple sizes used in a Logicon, as well as multiple rail voltages used for brightness of the LEDs.

thanks!!! icemark... why is my logicon shorting out? now that i think about it.. some times its on and others it isnt... i realize now..lying in bed!!! i jumped up, logged on and had to post i i would not been able to sleep,lol... what wires/colors should i check? im assuming its a ground...off the top of my head its the heater range for the hot and cold control

Is it usually blown bulbs in the logicon or bad solder joints. Mine has some that are out and I was curious because a lot of bulbs I thought were out in my car just needed to have contacts cleaned or some soldering.

I just replaced the Logicon bulbs. I couldn't get the right ones (it was Sunday) so I adapted these. Worked perfectly. Shouldn't be hard to find something similar at an electronics supplier, or just get the right ones from Mark.

Yeah I tried some 3mm bulbs before too, but found that you really need two per socket to get a good light flow.

well now... i looked at it today and.... i dont dont know where to begin... this thing had got me pissed off... i cant get it out... theres 4 clips on the top and bottom connecting the black face... is this what comes off to replace the bulbs or does the whole thing need to come out?? i got one connector on the back off but i feel a set of wires in the left side and it feels like i need to rip the half the dash off just to get to it....

You do need to remove the Logicon far enough to get to the 4 screws holding the face/control panel assembly on.

Well there are 4 screws holding the control panel for the Logicon on. Once those 4 screws are removed, you can pop the control panel assembly off.

From there, undo the two small plugs that plug into the main board of the Logicon, and then you can remove the control panel all together.

Then on the back of the control panel there will be two screws holding the sheild on. Remove those two, and you can access the two light bulbs (grey sockets). They simply turn out about a half turn.

When you go back to start re-assmbling the unit, put some loctite or ABS cement on the two screws you removed for the sheild. Failure to use some sort of loctite or adhesive will mean that the screws that you loosened will soon fall out, shorting out the main circuit board as they rattle around inside the Logicon.

thanks...i felt back behind the logicon and i felt wires comind out on the left side. it did not feel like there is a plug directly into the logicon. i got the one unhooked..
the left arrow points to where the jack i cannot get to.. is it direct plug to the logicon or is thier wires coming off the logicon leading to a plug?
i dont want to just pull on it and break somthin...the wires really keeping me from pulling it very far out.

If you are removing the whole logicon, and not just the face/ Control panel, then yes you need to unplug the THREE (3) plugs. Two of them are on the back of the logicon, and one is at the end of the harness coming out the back of the logicon, and is plugged into the air mix harness above the accellerator pedal. Normally I remove the gauges to get to the air mix plug, and reach in and unplug it, but you can also reach up from the pedals, or remove the trim panel at the windsheild and reach down.

These have about the same wattage as the originals and seem to be just as bright, but now that you've said that I wish I'd taken the oppourtunity to do a little upgrade with two bulbs per holder. ;)

A note to RHD FC owners. This method is physically impossible! The only way to get that plug is the FSM method (removing the trim under the windscreen). I was actually surprised how easy it was.

i pushed aside this issue until its 50 degrees or up outside not 20.....
its just to cold...with my wires i cannot get the logicon out far enough to get the 4 screws so.....another day...

Logicon replacement bulbs--can they be removed from the plastic base?
 

I was hoping to replace the bulbs in my logicon with LEDs, but the bulbs when removed are in a plastic base (see attached photo from Mazdatrix).

My question is: are the bulbs actually wedge-base that can be pulled from the plastic base to be replaced? Or is the bulb/plastic base a single unit that has to be replaced in its entirety?

I'd like to know before I go ahead and try to pull a bulb out and unintentionally break it...

Has anyone had any success putting in LED replacements for the bulb type in the attached photo?

this thread is 5 and a half years old...

the bulb is replaced with the plastic base. the bulb does not pull out it is one unit.

^ well, you _can_ actually unbend the wires of the bulb from the holder, then use the radio shack ones, thread them through the holes in the holder, bend them like the original one, and achieve the same. But it's a little more work. To ensure exact bulb, I'd get the bulbs with the holder.

I've never removed the defrost grille (too chicken since it's brittle) as per FSM
I've gotten to the plug after removing the instrument cluster (as mentioned), but once removed the plug by fishing my hand from the pedal area. It's not easy, and you'll end up with some little scrapes and cuts, but saves some work.

Lastly, the new ones may not know, but Icemark is no longer with us. May he Rest in peace.

After some additional research in these forums, it looks like the logicon replacement bulbs have a "Neo-wedge" base, and replacements can be obtained accordingly.

Do not replace bulb with LED on the car some of them are turn on by transistors and if they don see the correct drawn of current can create problems specialy the ones atached to the CPU like security,seat belt reminder,and key lock iluminations bulbs in the stering colum and the drivers door.
