Local mazda dealer fixing my auto-belt rails+motors

I took it in today to getthe estimate and evaluation on the seatbelts. They called in to verify the lifetime warantee. Each rail+motor cost $538, they are replacing both under warantee.

Kinda funny too, I took the car in with the interrior in pieces. They didn't question one bit. They were more surprised (if not anxious, excited) to see a rotary in their shop.

Kudos for them, I get working belts again when the parts come in :D

Atleast you didn't have to argue over it, that's pretty good!

Mine's my daily driver, so I don't want to have to make 3 trips to the next county, be without it for days.

I just pulled the control box plug and rolled them back manually.
Now I just leave it connected and slide under it as I get in.

Yeah, they were working fine when I bought the car 2 years ago. They since died. I had to chop up the rail cord(thats why i was wondering if they would actually fix them) in order to get them to the farthest back, safe, position. Mazda is dropping about a grand into it for me... pretty nice of them eh? I guess they didn't pay that for the parts... but still thats how much it woudl come to.

people online have the papers scanned saying they have to replace them (its a recall -- recalls never expire[as far as i know]). i yanked my driver side one out and have a miata belt. i need rx7 manual belts. i hate electric ones too much.

i don't mind them so much-- when they actually work... I had the idea of wiring a switch to the seatbelt lock mech so I could switch on when i was locked in. Just an idea...

I don't know why dealers would give their customers are hard time unless they don't know about the recall. It's nothing out of their pocket. Correcting the motorized belts is actually money coming into the dealership. They receive compensation from Mazda for the parts and labor.

Did the Canadian RX7's have the motorized belts? Is it possible to scrounge the manual 3 point belts from a yard in Canada?
