pull the UIM mani off. is not your brake booster line is it? or BOV line?

You should be able to feel/hear a big one like that. It could be anything, from a bad manifold gasket to unseated air funnel to cracked or disconnected vacuum tube. This is one you pretty much have to do on your own, just do the ol' spray method.

Have you sprayed carb cleaner around to see if the idle changes? If you have and didn't find anything, then there is a good possibility that its under the UIM. There are a couple vac lines there that you can't get very well by spraying stuff, plus they don't always get checked and replaced like the others. I had a bad vac leak I could never find and it turned out to be one of the ones thet connects to the TB where goes under the UIM.

not to sound like an idiot but what does UIM stand for

Upper Intake Manifold...it's the next big piece you get to after you remove the throttle body. My guess is that you probably have a worn out or torn gasket at the UIM or maybe the LIM. Replace those gaskets and add a bit of RTV. Make sure the mating surface betweet the parts is solidly sealed.

gus5891 10-10-06 08:17 PM

Also my car has a cool air in take on it an it has this weird green dome air filter an everybody i talk to says its a performance air filter but my question is it better than a K&N air filter or not i personaly always go with K&N but this was already on it

stevej88na 10-10-06 08:27 PM

I think that's the HKS foam filter. You can get gaskets from Mazda or Mazdatrix.com

gus5891 10-11-06 02:03 PM

Yeah but is the HKS filter a better filter than a K&N filter

stevej88na 10-11-06 02:10 PM

My guess is there's not much difference, but I have no way to tell you for sure. I've heard the HKS filters are either easier or harder to clean, but I can't remember which it is. Hopefully someone with more HKS experience can help you; I have the RX7.com Bönez filter myself.
