This wouldn't seem to burn as I had it on my lim on a 93 and actually had a very small fuel fire that I put out quickly and although the tape was all burnt up, I just changed it out. Not too sure on cooling effects though, my intake temps usually stay around 85-90 with the vmount setup.

Used alone, probably not a whole bunch but I typically see products like this used with a more comprehensive heat mitigation strategy for the entire bay...so stuff like shields and header wraps/coatings, combined with tapes, etc.
A little bit here, a little bit there, it all helps but I wouldn't expect one product- used in one little area- to make much difference.

makes sense. i have seen a fire wall gold taped and i could imagine it would be difficult to do that with the engine installed.

most people i see use it sparingly probably for show looks etc. i have yet to see a daily/car meet queen with a wraps/tape etc all used in conjunction.

A friend of mine did it to his Elise. He said the greatest benefit to it is that while he was working on the car in a well lit area, the DEI reflected the light really well, making it so he could see behind the engine perfectly...

If you remove the intake manifolds the firewall is pretty accessible/

I think I've seen it used more extensively for appearance than anything else...which is not to say the various products aren't useful, just that most of the cars I've seen it on don't really need it.
Bear in mind that a real high performance machine has optimised air flow and heat extraction in the engine bay from the gitgo, so bandaid type fixes are not used indiscriminately.
For the average street car the biggest challenge will be low speed heat soak and I don't think anything eliminates that but airflow. Various products might slow it down, but I'd bet that after an hour idling, a shielded and unshielded intake would have similar IATs.

It works perfectly at reflecting radiant heat, ie infra red radiation. It will do next to nothing for any other type of heat transfer, although i believe it is based on a fibreglass matt which probably helps a tiny bit as an insulation.
Ive done my lim, along with fairly extensive shields and wraps. Got no data to compare but considering how close my t-housing is id say its doing pretty bloody good.
Did the flame test with a blow torch. Held up pretty good. Itx not going to spontaneously combust!
Pretty sure they have the specs and heat limits on their website.

this stuff on a shield with an air gap would be closer to ideal..compared to taping the actual lower intake i'm guessing.

If you have a header, wrap it with the DEI titanium wrap for even more of a benefit.
