Lightest fc wheels ?

Are they the bbs style vert rims that are on there right now or should I be looking else where.

I was looking at the xxr 002 rims what is your opinion on these ? Some specs you would recommend for a sort of stock vert with a 1" lowering.

FirstRotaryExp 02-27-12 11:56 PM

IIRC stock vert BBS's weigh in around 10lbs per rim (no rubber) and were the lightest factory wheel to be produced for the FC's (even mounted with 205/45 hoosiers they were pretty light). Wheras the XXR 002 weighs in between 16 and 18 lbs depending on sizes (sourced from a google search for the weight)

That's helpful thanks. But would the difference be noticeable ?

Squeeb 02-28-12 12:17 AM

Thats a really broad question... Depends on what you mean by noticeable. You're not gonna feel the difference, but obviously there is a difference going from heavier to lighter wheels. It's also gonna depend on what you plan on doing. Sometimes going with a wider/heavier wheel will have more benefit then a skinnier/lighter wheel.

BBS wheels are about 13lbs.
I got 3 discs out in my back and I can take a wheel and throw it like a Frisbee...good Wheels.
Frankly if you get rid of them,I'd be interested..(coming up to GTA on the 31 of march)

Check out the Konig Foil, 16x7 with +40 offset, around 15lbs. Clean looking, well
made, reasonable cost at around around $125 ea. The 'Miata folks seem to like
them.

Also when considering the weight of the wheel, don't forget about the tires as
that can affect performance even more so then the wheel. A good example:
Dunlop Star Spec 205-55-16 is around 24 lbs vs the Hankook R-S3 at 22 lbs.

the difference in weight would most likely throw your speedo off.......

just get some bbs center caps off of ebay and put them on your vert wheels

All my friends swear by 5zigen :) I purchased rage because I am cheap as fuck :D

I may consider parting with my vert rims since they are dent/rash free. But what could I expect for them?

the enkei rpf1 is probably your best bet for a light weight wheel, 16x7 is 13.7 lbs

rotational size is the factor to difference in what the speedo reads, not weight.

Good condition, around $200

Come spring I plan to install one of my sets of 17 x 8.5" SSR type C rims which are only 16.7 lbs. But to be fair, I also have to factor in the weight of the 12mm spacers needed to fit these 42mm offset rims on the FC.

I also plan to install fairly light weight Continental DW tires, which are several pounds lighter size for size than most other tires in the same performance category. The lighter tire weight is mostly due to less stiffening members in the tire carcass so you give up a small amount of ultimate steering response but it also yields a slightly better ride quality. That is a fair trade off on the not so smooth streets I drive on where I live.

The lighter wheel/tire combo makes it easier to keep the tire planted on the pavement and it reduces the amount of energy needed to accelerate and decelerate the combo due to the reduced rotational inertia.

I just reweighed those rims and they are actually only 15.3 lbs each.
