Lets talk turbo!boost controller and BOV
 

ok so im doing my taxes right now and selling my old volvo so im gonna have around 700 bones to do some upgrades. here are some questions...

#1. i have an HKS SSQV bov with resurculation kit. i want a gtreddy type-s. i heard one on another members car last night and i want one real bad.

can i just get the BOV, or do i have to get the whole kit?

i can attach a picture of the install if necessary.

#2. i want to get a boost controller cus 4psi aint cuttin it. what is everyones preference? i want something easy to understand and use and not too expensive. i was thinking like Greddy Profec type-s and B. they look simple and arent expensive, kinda.

A greddy wont just go on, since they use a different flange. You will either need to weld on a Greddy type flange, or buy the kit (If you used the HKS kit that is, that just goes where the stock Bypass was).

Boost controller. If you want flashy and easy, go with an electronic, either HKS or Greddy. Really its mostly what brand and color you like. I like HKS myself. Or if you want cheaper, go manual. Have to open the hood to adjust, unless you get one with a cable. Costs only $75-$125 depending on brand and ussualy works just as well.

the thing is my BOV is installed very weird lol. im not at my house in LA so ill try to find a picture. its like.....there is a hose that is the same material as the radiator hose, but smaller, hanging off the intercooler hose, and it goes to the bottom of the HKS....here...

That's not weird. It's the FC3S kit for a hassle free install. Your going to need a new flange for the Type S.

i donno maybe cus ive never seen a BOV just dangling like that....hmm.

so if i get the flange, its pretty much just fits right on?

Well, you'd have to get the flange welded on, either to the stock pipe, or an aftermarket one. You can get another specific kit for the FC, but I'm pretty sure Type S were replaced by RS.

you're running FOUR psi!? something is wrong, something that shouldnt be fixed with a boost controller.

maybne thats a knock off bov and is leaking or maybe its not wound up tight enough

i think ive seen pipes with the flange welded on it on ebay for $10ish. Of course its ebay and you get what you pay for.............

its hitting .4 bar sorry. so its hitting around stock PSI. fuck i feel like an idiot. im too used to looking at metric, the whole car is metric. ive told so many people its hitting 4psi ahaha.

You can always go to home depot and buy a manual boost controller. I believe the price has gone up to about 29.95. I have a Apexi AVC-R boost controller. I havnt really messed with it, but all the features on it seem pretty cool. It maybe a little more complicated to tune though. Ive been thinking of trying out that new AEM boost gauge/controller. It seems pretty easy to use. Just push up for more boost.. down for less boost.

Greddy Profec is the best bang for your buck. I prefer HKS, but its too expensive. Hell the Greddy is too expensive. Ill just stick with my manuel controllers for now. I can handle $75 vs. $500+ for an HKS, or $350+ for Greddy. Too much just to adjust the boost from the comfort of your seat.

ya i agree with the cost. but i know i would rather just spend the money once and get it over with and get something i would 100% want, instead of something i 60% want....its science.

I'm using a XS MBC and it rocks.

As for BOV. There's no point in buying a new one unless your getting compressor surge or it's broken/leaking.

I say save the money from the BOV and do something like getting cleaned injectors or an Rtek or rebuilt turbo or exhaust.

well there's "no point" in getting a new front bumper if your stock one works fine, but people like a different look. He likes the sound of this BOV... it's not really for function

injectors are fine. i have exhaust. i hate the sound of my SSQV. if i cant find a type-s im getting blitz DD. i do wanna get an s5 turbo tho.

oh and +1 for Greddy Type S with an MBC. That's what I've got right now, and I will be upgrading to AEM Tru Boost probably this summer after I finish up school

There was a full greddy type-rs kit on ebay for like $200. It's probably still up, I saw it two days ago. I'm gonna go with an SSQV because I love the sound. It's so loud!

I have a Profec B-Spec II boost controller and I got it with a turbo timer from ebay. I paid like $250 for both shipped to my house.

i have a tial 50mm... wouldnt trade it for anything. always works. oh yea and a home made MBC......

Turbo XS Dual Stage

i just want S, no RS. SSQV isnt that loud. at idle my exhaust is louder. but what is awesome about it is you can make is do the PPPPIIIIISSSSHHHHH instead of the whistle when not under fast "de-boosting???"

Just a question..im going to get a tial 50 mm BOV....is it adjustable like the HKS or Greddy Type S....the only reason i ask is due to when im buying it online its saying select a spring size...im going to be running 15 psi on my new turbo set up..the options it gives me are 7psi, 9psi, and 11psi...whats correct for my application?
