so i been thinking that the only decent way to get a custom DP made is to either haul the car VIA trailer to the nearest shop that mandrel bends or drive it without inspection,insurance,DP! and others that wold be illegal. id really rather not do both..
so i was wondering if there is some sort of material i could use that i could bend into th shape of my DP and take it to the shop so he can bend it for me? any kind of piping thats semi bendable that would result in a decent shape i could take to my shop? i want a 3 inch or even 3.5 DP!! :icon_tup:

Do you know for sure that there are any local shops that can mandrel bend 3" or 3.5" piping? That's big piping and most shops don't have the equipment to do that diameter. I'd check the resources first.

Other than that, the general shape is going to be that of any other after-market DP, right? Obviously the size and top flange will be different. You have a spare DP laying around?

Buy some mandrel sections from ATP, cut and mock them. Mark the angles then have them welded up.

There's no real need to have one singular piece mandrel bent. And by the time you find someone who ACTUALLY has a REAL mandrel bender who is willing to model and bend your pipe..........you could have bought 17 other cars :)

Just get some sections, cut, mark, and have them welded if you don't have the equipment. Making downpipes is fun - don't let someone else get that action!

just buy some bends from atp turbo and make one. you will need a flange for the back of your turbo and for the other end as well.

i do know of a shop that can bend them this size in which he uses the mandrel bender. actually i had him bend a piece for my last project (my 6 port turbo) and it cost me like 5 bucks or something for a 45 degree with 6 inches on each side. i was hoping for a material i could take to him to get 1 solid DP. i guess i could go to him and get a couple pieces bent for me and just weld them together.

if he can do it maybe take a metal hanger or something and bend it how you want it, then take it to him and try to have him replicate the bends

BTW, thats my buddies GREAT welding job and when my stock turbo took a crap on me:( should of heard that leak;)

Well nothing exactly wrong with that, you just sacrifice a little flow :)

But I imagine the same place would also do welding? (If you don't have a welder that is) and you want a mandrel bent piece, just get the sections and cut them to fit. Mark their orientation and have them melted together with electricity ;)

What turbo are you using? If it has a v-band exit flange you can buy a v-band flange/clamp set and some mandrel sections for about $150 ATP. One stop shopping :)

V-band it is. i have the clamp i just need the flange. i do have a wleder.i thought i could trust my buddy welding abbilities a little better than mine since he does more often. i think i was better off with my own.
my main goal was to have 1 solid picec but i guess im gonna have to section it together.

That's not mandrel bent.

your right but i cant see it being that much hurtfull to flow compared to a REAL mandrel bent pipe. will it be less flow? probably, but i cant see it being a huge difference.
