Leaking Pulsation Damper
 

I was working on my car, me and my buddies, and we noticed that there was this leak from the main fuel rail and as I suspected this was from the Pulsation Damper. I took it of and the first thing I did was to take off the plastic cup off of it, there was loose little screw in there and it was obvious that it was leaking from the hole where that screw was supposed to go in to. I screwed it in and put some RTV over it, just to make sure it does not unscrew/leak again. My question is, how hard should it be screwed in? and, Is there anything else that I should know before driving around like this?

P.S.S. I would also like to know what that little screw does for the pulsation damper.

You now have two choices....

1--go get a new PD. right away.

OR

2--get ready for :devil:

do yourself the favor of getting a new one. I just replaced mine with one from Mazdatrix last month and they were great. I even had it in my hand within two days from when I ordered it!

The screw is to set the tension. If the screw is put in too far the membrain gets ripped and the PD does not move far enough.

If the screw is put in too short, then the membrain moves too much and the membrain will eventually rip and leak.

The screw needs to move. If you have covered it with RTV, you have defeated the purpose of the PD to start with.

Replace the PD ASAP, avoid driving the car until you do. It is almost impossible to re-insert the screw to the correct length without the proper test bench.
