Leaking ALOT of oil

O.k...it seems like my car might be leaking from either the Oil Filter, or a hose next to it. Or it could also be leaking from the oil pan. If it's leaking moreso from the oil pan....what would happen if I used Engine Block sealant. I've never seen or heard of a thread on this. I'm assuming it's bad for the rotary engine...but asking is worth the shot.

I would not use it. Do the work to find the leak and fix it properly. Your car will be much better off.

what is happening is it's probably leaking from the oil filter pedastal. right below your filter. ya know the aluminum block. sanwhiched in between the 2 parts of the pedastal are 2 rubber o-rings that is the most common leakeage spot. and is often assumed coming from somewhere else such as your oil-pan like you said. cause it drips everywhere and you can't tell where it's originating.

i suggest cleaning your oil pan and around that area. and running the car or try pinpointing where it's coming from. it may be your oil pan as well. but since you said it's leaking by the filter it's a good bet it's coming from that pedastal....

...of course you won't know till you clean:D

Fire Marshall Bill to the rescue yuck yuck.

Seriously. You might need to replace the rubber o ring at your oil filter neck. Two 10mm bolts hold it on. Or check the hose below it. These buggers have been know to go. A temp fix would be to watch martha stewart and cross your fingers.

just a quick ?, where do u get the o rings for the pedestal at? thanks in advance.

copandengr 12-25-01 01:53 PM

They are just run of the mill o rings. You can get them at a Mazda dealer or a decent auto parts store. Most of the better auto parts stores will have a good selection of metric o rings. Should be about 50 cents for both of them.

it's not the O-Rings

It's a puncture in the Oil filter which is going to get fixed today when I get home!

tesla042 12-27-01 12:45 PM

Hopefully it is just a puncture in the filter.. but here's a writeup I did on the o-ring change:
