Lead Substitute / Lead Fuel
 

Would putting a highly leaded fuel benefit a rotary? I know the cats and O2 sensor would most likely fail, but what if I put in a bit of lead once in a while? What about the lead substitute which you can buy in a bottle? Would the internal apex seals like a little bit of lead in their diet?

Im planning on running no cats so I guess the only concern would be the O2 sensor. Will the substitute lead ruin O2 sensor?

Why would you want to put lead in your car?

Lead or lead substitutes are pretty useless in a rotary unless you are going with carbs... and even then there are no real advantages to using leaded or lead substitutes in the fuel.

If anything; informally I would think that the lead build up might even contribute to apex seals sticking, as apex seals float more than rings in a piston engine.

lead was used before many of the gasoline’s available had normal lubricating agents added. Since the rotary engine is basically a two stroke with oil injection and most gasoline’s have lubricating agents already in them there is no advantage to using lead or lead replacements. Also the lead as a lubricant was for the valves which rotaries don't have.

Unless you were using a pre-1970 Japanese motor or pre-1972 American motor in the car... but why would you do that?

There is NO advantage to leaded gas except for piston engines.

Even early rotaries didnt "benefit" from leaded gas.

Just say NO!

Spend the money on fuel injector cleaner.
You'll be happier with the results.

I usually put 3 bottles in every 6-8 months!
