launch methods

How do some of you guys get the quickest possible off the line launch in your 7s? I usually rev to about 3-4 grand then dump the cluch and move on out shifting right at the red line(86N/A):D

I launch at 5k, letting the clutch out quickly enough to be on the edge of wheelspin, but feathering it enough to keep it from bogging. Shift at redline in all gears.

In my n/a, I used to dump the clutch at 6k, but with my TII...I dump at 5k to 5.5k, and feather it. I let the wheels spin versus letting the car hop though. I've heard that it's bad on the diff if you let the car hop.

Usually slip the clutch at 4500 and when it grabs I gun the gas. If you do it right - perfect takeoff, no wheelhop, and no clutch grinding. A tiny bit of tire chirp - but no slipping.

I use clutch slip at 5k and I go off from the line like a 4wd. But then again, I have 335's in the back gripping the ground so...

hey

I have yokohoma tires on stock rims and stock clutch. I rev to 6k and drop clutch not dump it but drop sort of quickly. This worked great once. One sec of weel spin and take off but I did it again on another street and I spun for like 3 seconds. It sucked but was pretty cool. So try expierimenting. 6k. 5k. 4.5k. Personally I think The higher you rev it. up to 6 the better your chances for a good run. Just have to control it.

I think your theoretically suppose to take off at the peak of the torque curve. I think that's somewhere between 3500 and 4500 if I remember right.

A performance clutch does help the takeoffs smoother and less wheel hop.

SpeedRacer Aug 29, 2001 02:52 PM

I rev to about 3800 and slip the clutch REAL quickly. I get just a little chirp on take-off, shift at redline in first and dump the clutch, and I get another chirp...I shift at 7.5 from 2nd on out.

I run Nitto Drag Radials @ 15-17 PSI with the soft stock springs.
I try to get a good burnout done before I launch. This heats up your tires and makes them stickey.
I launch at 5000 to 5500 RPM with 1.9 60' times.

This is how I launch...

Cool launch Mykl!!

Hey guy, this might be a stupid question, but I'm new to driving 5-speed. So, how do you "drop the clutch", "dump the clutch" and "slip the clutch"? What's the difference?

vaughnc Aug 31, 2001 10:36 AM

drop the clutch - Rew and POW!!! (then tire spin)

dump the clutch - rev, release quick, and more accellerator - some tire chirp and wheel hop

slip the clutch - rev, release to where you feel the plates touching, release more, and gun it. perfect start - no wheel hop, and .....
