Is this LargeOrangeFont?

LargeOrangeFont 03-16-17 08:43 PM

Yes it is :)

I didn't know if anyone would point this out today.

clokker 03-16-17 09:00 PM

Matt even likes the car, congratulations.

LargeOrangeFont 03-16-17 09:27 PM

Thank you! He said off camera that this was the best car of the "street legal track car" type he has driven, aside from the Coyote 5.0 powered Cayman that cost $50k plus a donor Cayman.

Makes me feel good about all FCs!

So what's going on with the steering, is it just set up for different conditions?

The tires had one event on them, and after the first track day the rears always slip on the rims a lot because of the soap they use to mount them. When I prepped the car for the shoot I put the rear tires on the front, forgot to check how much they slipped, and they were slightly out of balance. When I checked them after the shoot I noticed they moved about 20 degrees. Between that and it being cold and a little damp with race slicks I think it made him a little skittish. The car likes to be driven harder than that.

How he describes the front end getting light mid corner neutral throttle was my impression of my FC after having taken a couple year break from it and coming back to it.

Unnerving...
I thought it was because mine was 48/52 rear weight biased with full tank, but maybe its an FC thing.

I never noticed it when all I drove was my FC except I knew I had mild throttle on understeer.

Very cool review!

LargeOrangeFont 03-16-17 11:08 PM

Interesting. It is not something I've ever noticed on the track, or noticed when driving other cars and going back to the FC. The car handles different on track than it does on the street, or even pushing in the canyons. Mine does not understeer at all anymore.

In a steady state corner on power it will pivot and cut down to the inside, and then the rear will start to step out if you give it too much power. On exit the rear will step out with too much throttle.

My friend who went from Miata to FC TII said it felt like he was driving the front end of the FC around instead of the trying to keep the rear end following the front.

I didn't know what he was on about until I took a couple years off the FC and came back to it. I think a power plant frame would help.

I'm starting to enjoy the dismissive looks at the beginning of the day.. and the bewildered Porsche and BMW owners coming over to look at the car after the first couple sessions.

Sadly it is all going to be painted orange here pretty soon.

Way cool Ashley, so glad it all came together for you - I have been living vicariously though your project for years now. I had everything in the garage to build a similar project (planned to keep it most on the street) but life and prioritizes changed. Still have the RX7 but sadly it remains n/a rotary (under) powered.

I like the video and the car, the exhaust sounds great.

That is exactly how i feel my car is handling. After a driving my brothers Miata at deals gap for a run and then getting back into my TII it felt like on the extremely tight corners i was driving the car with the front end. Mainly past 90 deg of steering input. It made the car more difficult to place on the road. On faster roads it is much less noticeable and the car feels great. I could live with that characteristic but I was hoping to try and improve it in the future.

Good video LargeOrangeFront. It was a good watch and you didn't get dinged with the shift feel and turning radius demerits:lol:
