KYB AGX + Tein S. Tech Installation Picutres - tire now rubs sping/shock???
So I installed the new shocks and springs and everything was going great until I slapped the wheel back on and found that the tire now rubs the spring a little, I'm afraid to lower it off of the jack stands for fear of something bending or binding...
I am a little lost, do I just need wheel spacers or something?? alignment job?
|
What wheels are you running? Stock? Or do you have wider aftermarket wheels with a +40 or above offset?
|
their the stock tII wheels i think w/ 205's
|
|
Well, that the stock wheel and tire combo, so they shouldn't rub. Besides the "PIM62-OUO on the spring there, are there any other part numbers on the springs? Somewhere it should have the model on it (SKM62-AUB00).
|
F-PIM62-OUO GCC and TEIN are the only things printed on the springs, I'll have to tlook on the box but I am pretty sure these are the right springs..
|
Do you have the spring sitting in the seat properly (is it rotated properly)?
You're not using camber bolts or anything so obvious, are you? |
Yes the spring is seated correctly, and I am not using any camber bolts or anything besides the AGXs and S. Techs.
Though a thought just occured to me, when Installing i read the instructions from Tein for the S. techs, they had a cart of different makes and models and corresponding measurements for cutting the stock bumpstop down. But for FC3S the were just - - - - - - dashes instead of some of the other ones which meant to just install without modifying it. But that wouldn't have anything to do with this? |
 Man this sucks!!!!!:uhh: :Wconfused
|
It's a fault in the spring. I know someone with the same springs (not sure what shocks he has) and he also was complaining that they rubbed the stock wheel.
|
well i already emailed both Tein and KYB to see what they had to say about it but I probably won't hear from them until at least monday.
has anyone else has problems when lowering the cars, these springs were supposed to only drop it by 1", but they were more liek two inches shorter than the old stock springs.. |
i had a similar problem with the same width tire and eibach lowering springs . . . its the width of the tire with the offset.
|
actually i just looked on the tein website and it's listed only for "none turbo" fc3s's....
i guess i bought the wroung springs....how would they be different between turbo and non turbo??? |
I've heard the same problem with some lowering springs. For now you can get some thin spacers (3-5mm) and they should clear with that.
how would they be different between turbo and non turbo They should be the same. I have non turbo Eibach springs on my T2. |
okay so now the question is whether i can safely modify this setup w/ wheel spacers and keep these springs or maybe i should just buy different springs?
How safe are the spacers?? what is the difference between the turbo snd the non turbo's suspension that makes it so these don't fit with my wheels? |
Turbo is heavier than an NA. I've had my setup rub with very aggressive cornering running 225/50/16 up front.
|
Are they real tein springs? Maybe theyre ebay replicas?
Also, you should paint your calipers. |
yes they're real Tiens, look at Tein's webpage and you'll see the big waring for ebay ripoff, they clearly show you how to identify if you got counterfeit springs......I didn't buy mine on ebay, but you can see for yourself they are real in the pic if you compare with the counterfeit ones on teins webpage..
They don't fit right cause they're for a non turbo. But can we run spacers?? i'm already willing to sell these for $160 + S&H, or trade for tanabe gf210's... i've got more than just calipers to paint, more like the whole car, but really I have been slackin and this stupid issue with me buying the wrong springs doesn't help at all either..... http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...d/101_2337.jpg |
I installed the KYBs but used the Eibach springs. I also went up to a 225/50-16 tire. I had plenty of clearance between the tire and suspension. I would suggest replacing the springs with either a different brand or at least double check the part numbers to insure that Tein has a compatible spring.
Unless there is a difference in the S4 and S5 that I'm not aware of, you should not have to install spacers. I would absolutely recommend an alignment as soon as you complete the installation. Due to changing the ride height and the suspension angles, it is mandatory that you have a qualified shop align it properly. The $60-70 you spend is cheap insurance against ruining your tires in a short time. |
i'm just gonna sel these an dget the tanabes' or eibachs, they make themand have the , listed for tht tubo models as a sepate part number....
Tommarow i will take the Teins off and reinstall the old springs for now while i get a new set... how do yuo like th eibachs and KYB's?? thats what i was orginally gonna run but then i had the brain fart an dbought the tiens that are for the non turbo...... |
I love the KYB/Eibach combo. I had a set of Tokico Illuminas with Eibachs on the rear and Mugen torsion bars in the front on my old Civic back in the mid 90s and I thought that there was nothing better. It allowed adjustablilty to suit driving conditions. I was set on installing the Illuminas in my TII until I realized that the adjustment on top of the strut would not be easy to access on the rear of the 7. I found that the KYBs were the ideal answer to the issue of removing speakers, trim, etc. each time I needed to change the setting. Yes, the adjustment is a little difficult to reach being behind the wheel but it's not too bad. The first night I installed the KYBs, I cranked them to 8 rear and 4 front and drove home from my shop. After the 30 minute drive, my teeth were chattering from the stiff and bumpy ride. I cranked them back to 5 rear and 2 front and found a very nice responsive ride. It was incredible how much of a difference it made to replace 130k mile old components. I had to play with settings for a while to get them dialed in just right, but it was easy enough to pull over on the road and click up or down and try it and then adjust again.
The KYB/Eibach combo is definitely the way to go in my opinion. |
The Eibach Pro Kit springs for the 2nd gen 7s has been discontinued. I know this cause I had a hell of a time finding a set. I finally found a set through Tire Rack but I spent several weeks looking and e-mailing until I found them in stock. I have mine installed with the KYB AGXs but don't have the car on the ground yet but I hope by the end of the holiday weekend.
|
I bought mine through The Tire Rack as well. They initially gave me two of the same part number for the front rather than a seperate left and right. They made it right very quickly so I have nothing but great things to say for Tire Rack.
|
It is due to the spring. I have TokicoHP+TeinStech. And they rub with 205/50/16 up front with the S5 t2 wheels. Something about the way tein designed the spring it is alot wider. My friend that has racingbeat springs has plenty of clearance. While I have a 5mm spacer and it barely clears. I would defintely suggest getting either eibach or racingbeat.
