kouki? zenki?
 

wtf does kouki and zenki mean? Ive heard that term in regards to the 240sx as well. i did search.

zenki = series 4 (japanese for 'early' or something like that)
kouki = series 5 (late)

It means something like this: Kouki - light functions and Zenki - all functions... The S5 is called Kouki and S4 zenki! It´s a Japanese expression used on diffrent cars...

generally kouki and zenki refer to two subgenerations inside a generation of cars.

us Americans just tag a .5 onto it or something like that.

AE86s, S14s, FCs, and FB/SAs exhibit this.

kouki really has no japanese meaning...other than the applied meaning for cars...which is "earlier model"


zenki actually means "first term"....i think the word people use for Zenki is really supposed to be zenkai....which means "last time"

time to ask my sis who takes japanese :)

kouki - second half (of a period)
kouki - opportunity
kouki - noble; aristocratic

zenki - first term

it probally refers to the first term/second half definitions

The terms have come to apply to...

Zenki = early
Kouki = later

There's also another term "Chuuki" or "Chuki" which means "middle".
FD's in Japan have:
Zenki - 1992 - 1995
Chuuki - 1996 - 1998
Kouki - 1999 - 2001

Japanese have used these terms when trying to describe sub-models within a certain model run.  The Kanji characters are usually followed with the letters "M/C", which mean "model change".  They are used to describe minor model changes in between a certain model run.

Sorry, I'm the guy that uses these terms for FC a lot. :)
