"knightsports ecu"

has anyone gotten one of them off of ebay or is it a rip off?

turboGXL 07-08-02 06:09 PM

I got one,but I'm too scared to put it in without knowing what's really on it.

BlackRx7 07-08-02 07:54 PM

well put it in and tell us if its worth it............

Funklord 07-08-02 08:14 PM

it says its for "N327 ECU" thats the s5 N/A ecu i beleive
i dont know how that would work on a turbo

tIIforever 07-09-02 09:57 PM

id like to know how its supposed to work on a turbo

fastrotaries 07-10-02 04:25 AM

the chip should be burnable, so send it to a tuner and let him know what you have and have it specifically burned for your application.

Isn't Knightsport a Japanese company?

tIIforever 07-10-02 10:50 AM

so send it to like el prototypes and will they reburn it to what mods you have for a hundred bucks? instead of paying 300 and then resending it you only have to buy the ebay one and send it?

Josepi 07-10-02 10:55 AM

You guys know those EEPROM chips are like 25¢ when bought in bulk...

Uhh NO!!
besides, I have the chip for N374 ECU's so I don't think its the same as the ones you guys are talking about.

Really? Where from? What's it do? What mods? Care to find someone with an EEPROM coder and make a dump?

turboGXL 07-11-02 08:07 PM

Well N374 is the jspec ECU. Which I have as compared to the N370 us spec ones. I'm interested in finding out whats on the knightsports ECU chip, in addition, to finding out whats on the chip in my N374 ECU. The chip inside my ECU currently is also an aftermarket chip of some kind.

madscientist 09-12-02 12:08 PM

great....i have one too, but i'm not so sure about installing it on my car cuz i dont want it to detonate...
i knew i never shoulda bought it off my friend, but he bought it from ebay so i figured it'd be okay...then i remembered that it was probably tuned for some FC half way across the world...
the thought of what would happen if i put it on my FC kinda scares me..

if i have to get it sent off to have it retuned then forget it...i can go somewhere else and have a different ECU put in and tuned by a professional.

if you're from Canada, mainly Ontario, you must know of Yoshio Kinoshita and Japanese Automotive rite? i know he chips rotaries but he'll refuse to touch them mechanically...that's well, another person's job..mainly your own...

I'd suggest sending it to a programer here in the states and have them look at the mapping. Tell them it's from Japan and tell them your worries. They might have to do a little bit of tweaking is all.

And by the way.. Anyone you send that comptuer to would probably copy/steal the program so they can use it in future programing. So do us all a favor and send it to some place so we can all share the wealth! :D

Me, personally, am going through E.L. Prototypes for my programing. I know some one that is going to sell me a socketed computer so I just have to buy the actual chip now and plug it in.

BlackRx7 09-13-02 09:37 PM

may I say back from the dead?

ForsakenRX7 03-10-03 06:54 PM

I resurrected this thread cause I need an answer. Or at least an opinion. I got one a them damn chips also. But mine says N374 also. And obviously I gotta N370 ECU. But I'm wondering what would happen if I put the chip in my ECU. My theory is this: The Japanese run a higher octane than us right? Wouldnt that mean that a more aggressive fuel map anyways in a N374? So if I put this upgraded chip in my N370 that might give my U.S. ECU a very aggressive fuel map. Or at least more aggressive than what it is. I'm tempted to go ahead with it and give it a spin. Any ideas or opinions?

Blake_AE 03-10-03 07:24 PM

I'm wondering why you guys bought something without knowing what the hell it was?

ForsakenRX7 03-10-03 07:33 PM

I did know what it was! It was a performance chip for 89-91 RX7s. I didnt realize till I got it though that it was for N374s. The japan ECU.

NOS FC3S 03-10-03 08:41 PM

Got a S5 N/a one 4 sale? If so PM me

If its the one mentioned at the front of the thread (ie the $25 on ebay) then you don't know what you got. It'll just be some guy copying (illegally to boot) chips and putting a label on - who knows what it is on the "inside" - I've even heard that sometimes these chips are just blanks.

Why don't you ask the seller what you got? If he's for real he should be able to tell you what the mods are (fuel/timing/etc)
