Kinda of an odd mod/fix question.
 
Hey guys i got kind of a weird idea. K, since my hood is fubarred in the very front on the drivers side right up beside the headlight/buumper, i was thinking of maybe cutting the hood all the way across to the other side by the passenber headlight and making an air inlet. kinda for cooling purposes. The cut would only be about 2-3 inches from the front of the hood. Any ideas/advice or has this be done before.

i dont think it would be a good idea beacause all the cooling air for the engine is supposed to come from the bumper and get forced over the radiator. giving another means for air to get into the engine bay would probobly reduce the air flow over the radiator and cause more cooling problems than it would solve.

the cooling and air-ducting sytem is one of the few things that you cant realy re-engineer better than mazda did it from the factory.

Well i also forgot to mention this, i was thinking of making like an aluminum or fiberglass cover that directs the air over top of the radiator. DO you know what i mean? it'll cover the big open space right before the rad where the coolant resevior is.

The airflow characteristics will still be changed.

The air going into the engine bay will make it harder to pull air through the radiator.

You want to try and have less pressure behind the radiator so air will go right through it.

The hole in the hood will ram a good amount of air into the engine bay but might reduce air flow that way.

If you make ducting right to a cold air box them it might help prevent this.

So your saying that if i made this "vent"(hehe) i should route the air to my cone filter, and then it will be ok for pressure wise?

What if i made it so that the air is routed down towards the front of the rad? or would that still be bad?

From the look of that picture above it looks like if you did that the reason it would be not such a great idea is you wouldn't have as much flow as you would like. If you take a look at the picture and the arrows at the car you can see the lower air dam is a better place to grab air from.

At least thats my take on it.

I already have a Feed Lip on my car. I am taling about right where the third and 4th arrors are from the left on the hood. Seeing as how the diagram shows the arrors pointing in front of the car cause it can't penetrate the hood i thought it would be a good idea. Cause would it not be better to have it go in insted of stoping dead?
