Keepin' it Leagal

I want to use my N/A (new) rotor housings that have been "Street Ported" in my newly aquired '91 Turbo II motor. I know raising the exuast port is bad for emissions(which is basically what the street port is), but I don't know exactly how much it increases overlap. The "porting" effectivly removes the chamfer on the exaust port. What are my chances of using these rotor housings in a turbo, with other goodies like cat-back, cool air intake, turbo wheel, injectors, & intercooler, and staying legal.

so long as all the emissions are still there it should pass fairly easily with a good cat, i passed with a nearly new bonez HF cat, 3" turboack exhaust, street port, turbo porting, TID and a few other goodies and it passed even after it cooled off from idling for about 10 minutes before the actual test.

Welcome, Another from O'fallon. I haven't any experience with ported motors, but primarily street ports are on the intake side. As far as keeping it legal, If it's tuned and running correctly (with a new catalytic converter, You should pass the GCAP emissions tests.

Thanks. I plan on using "swapable goodies" in the exaust territory in dealin' with the emissions sticker. Any help and/or suggestions are welcome.

just be sure the engine is in good running condition, be sure the timing is correct, the TPS properly set and the variable resistor tuned as lean as possible without misfiring.

What is this variable resistor you talk of. I demand to know! Please.

J-Rat 08-25-05 11:50 PM

Its a resistor that controls your idle mix.. you read the FSM yet?

dcrews 08-26-05 12:05 AM

he has a s5 = no variable resistor

TonyD89 08-27-05 12:41 AM

Good advice. O Falon dude, We need to hook up! All info is good!

St Charles/Maryland Heights here.

You should jump over to the Midwest section theres quite a few from St Louis around here.

Maybe try some of that guarentee to pass emissions stuff you pour in your gas tank, thats going to be my first attempt.

I've never had that stuff work.

His sig says 1987 FC.. Last I checked that is an S4. (this is TII sleeper I was referring to, not the thread starter)
