Just when I thought I was done with FCs...

This followed me home!

74,000 miles. One owner since new (title says it was issued 9/2/1987!). Never modified. Never hit. Garaged 24/7 until about two years ago, when it was for the most part parked. Not so much as a door ding. No rust except a bit on the wiper arms. Nearly all original, down to a set of Dunlop D40 M2 tires from 1994.

It needs a bit of work, but I'm excited to get this back out there in the hands of someone who will love it.

Great find! You can never be done with fcs hahah

DeaconBlue 02-02-13 09:11 AM

Very cool. Glad to see you back!

good find!

wthdidusay82 02-02-13 11:35 AM

How much you get it for?

wow very nice, and yes, FC's will find you...

RotaryResurrection 02-02-13 12:40 PM

I see it has the mandatory backwards s4 wheel modification. :)

Nice car otherwise.

SoloII///M 02-02-13 02:41 PM

400 bucks! Needs a lot of work, but it's a really solid original car.

Good deal man!

I parted out a TII over the summer. I still have some stuff left over, let me know if You're looking for anything.

In other news, the GTUs is parked until I can get it into a garag for a big turbo build.

It sounds like you're going to flip this one. Take it to an autox first!

SoloII///M 02-02-13 05:12 PM

It needs a cat-back... badly. What is there is totally rusted out. It also has no main cat. The precat is still there though. I guess the factory cat rusted out or clogged. I'm debating what to do there, because I really don't want to dump a lot of money in the car. I've been searching for something that looks factory (i.e. duals) but haven't found anything.

All the under-manifold vacuum lines are toast, and the injectors need cleaning. It needs a fuel filter, all the fluids changed, and the throttle body cleaned as it's gummed up and sticking.

It needs tires. Owner said the suspension was OK, but I have my doubts. It needs the windshield top trim piece, the window trims, the hatch trims, and a really good cleaning.

I'll definitely take it to an autocross, probably the first AI event in March, assuming it's running by then.

RotaryEvolution 02-02-13 05:16 PM

good price, nice to see these good deals are still out there to be found!

you will fall in love again once you feel that turbo versus the old n/a.

SoloII///M 02-02-13 05:33 PM

I wish I had space to keep it but I don't. Two BMWs, the wife's speed3, the truck and trailer and motorcycle mean I have no room. Hoping to keep the parts spend low on this and pass it along to someone who values a really clean original car.

RotaryEvolution 02-02-13 05:36 PM

pfff, i bet you wind up keeping it and selling one of the other cars. :)

for a little while i considered selling the '04 RX8 but it is spirited and fun enough to keep regardless of the rather low mpg. the TII is roomy enough to take most anything in and comfortable for long drives, only drawback is 2 seats. i am however considering letting go of the TII for something a bit older, yet similar in style.

Great find, reminds me of my T2, but a better deal.

I know how that goes.
Good luck and have fun.

$400 was a steal I got mine for $1000 and the engine is toast.

Mine shows 94k miles on the odometer but I've got no way to confirm it.

SoloII///M 02-03-13 07:36 AM

This one has a good engine, just a ton of vacuum leaks to fix and a gummed up throttle body.

Well you got a deal , for $1000 mine came with full exhaust, lowered on tanabe springs, blitz blow off valve, drilled slotted rotors, s5 taillights, fuel cut defender, electric fan, hid headlight conversion.

Was missing the ecu, afm, air box/snorkel, shifter, and two wheels (I got 2 spares and 2 stock wheels with it).

I still think I got a good deal, wish I paid what you paid though.

Car does have rust ina few places but nothing looks bad other than where the spare tire goes.(that's why I question the 94k miles). Looks like it was painted at some point.

I'm in the process of taking the engine out to put another in, my engine is definitely no good from blown coolant seals.

Dude you got a steal of a deal. This is bullshit, you can't find deals like that on long island NY. Just do a full oem restore and enjoy it.

SoloII///M 02-03-13 04:09 PM

OEM restore is exactly where I'm going. I got the UIM off and vacuumed out all the crap that had accumulated in there. Leaves, parts of pine cones, all sorts of nasty stuff. Still not great, but I haven't really tackled cleaning it, just removing enough gunk that I could check all the vacuum lines and the oil metering lines.

http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/o...ps7662e451.jpg

As expected, while he had replaced all the easy vacuum hoses, he hadn't popped off the UIM to replace the oil metering "spider" hoses. They were all broken, so I'll replace those. I figured while I was in there I should have the injectors cleaned and flowed, since they have never been out and with the car having sat for so long it seemed like cheap insurance. I hate pulling the UIM on these cars! Fortunately the oil metering lines are in good shape and not cracked.

Then spent about two hours cleaning the passenger's side of the engine bay. It's not perfect, but it's much better than it was.

Only reason I got the deal I did is the original owner is a co-worker who heard through word of mouth that I was an FC nut from way back when and he knew I'd take care of it. He couldn't fix the idle problems and had given up on driving it.

scmetfan 02-03-13 07:15 PM

What were you using to clean up the engine bay? Just standard degreaser and brushes?

SoloII///M 02-03-13 07:56 PM

Pro Tek! All Purpose Cleaners, Biodegradable, Environmentally Friendly

Stuff is insane.

I only use it because it works better than anything else I've tried, short of MEK.

I use Castrol Super Clean - but you have to really watch around bare aluminum as well as the outside painted surfaces because at full strength it will etch both.
