Just put in Redline MTL. Wow.

Switched out my old Manual Transmission Oil yesterday. It came out almost black (I doubt it's every been changed). I put in the Redline MTL (at $8 a bottle, it best be good) and it made a world of difference. I used to have a notchy downshift from 4 to 3 even if I matched rpms exactly. Now, I can slam it down no problem. Definitely worth the money.

where did you get it from?

I got mine from www.myoilshop.com @ $7/qt...very quick delivery(2 days)

Yeah, there's a ton of shops online that carry it. Most big-name parts places don't (ie schucks, napa, gi joes, etc.). I got mine from a local performance parts store. Clearly, I paid more than $7, but anything to support local stores right?

should I get the redline mtl, or the mt-90.
difference?

Before I put a redline product in my vehicle I was getting an awful grinding from 2nd to 3rd but only when the tranny was cold.

So I went to the local shop and asked what I should use and they had no clue. Not to mention I did not have my manual with me and I had forgotten how much oil to buy and what type.

So I called the local mazda dealer while I was in the performance shop. They said that you can use either redline MTL or the redline oil which specifically is made for manual transmissions which require specific atf fluid - Ford Mustangs use it. So I gave the scenario to the mazda dealer about how I was getting a bit of grinding while shifting, and he told me to get "Redline D4 ATF". The dealer actually said that they use automatic tranny fluid in the cars up here in CT.. Dont know why.

This redline d4 atf satisfies all automatic and manual trannies and it fills the requirement in my RX7 manual, API service GL-4, its weight is 70w-90. It also has dexron III and whatever.

Basically this oil which I used should be used if your tranny is pretty notchy or grindish. The mixture in it has a greater coefficiant of friction which is awsome for old syncros.

Well it Worked awsome. The redline MTl should work just about as good with a little added protection I guess. I have the MTl in my saab.

Mazda recommends 75W90 weight transmission oil - the Redline "MT-90" is actually a better match for the Mazda spec.

I've heard of MTL working well also...

How often does the redline need to changed? And it feels like my first and second gates are sometime tight....like i have to force the shifter into teh gate (almost like a skinny little entrance), no grinding though (only in 3rd).
Anyone know what this problem is?

Thanks

how many quarts does it take?

Use the MT-90. MTL is thinner, certain trannies have had problems with the MTL.

A little over 2 and a half.

Get 3 quarts - you can only get the Redline stuff in quarts.&nbsp The transmission takes 2.6liters officially.
