Just pulled a code (17)!

I followed these instructions and pulled code 17.

-17
-feedback system
-oxygen sensor output remains 0.55v 10 sec. after F/B system operation beginning
-feedback system canceled(for EGI)

OK, so what the hell does that mean, and how can I fix it?

I replaced my O2 about 2000 miles ago. I never checked codes before that.

I had a code 17 in my 91 TII. It caused limp home mode.

The problem was a broken o2 sensor wire in the harness.

The fix was simple.

I ran a new wire from the o2 sensor straight thru the firewall to the ecu.

Problem fixed.

It's not unheard of for an O2 sensor to go bad at 2000 miles, you might as well replace it. They're not horribly expensive. If replacing it doesn't work, then you could have a short or the ECU is messed up.

Could improper shielding cause the same thing? When I replaced it 2000 miles ago we just spliced the wires and put them together. Then put the heat shrink stuff around the new connection. Could this cause it to not be shielded properly?

Hmmm update time (good news!) I reset my ECU by pulling the negative battery cable for a few seconds then I checked for codes again. Nothing. It must have been stored from a while back/with the old o2 sensor. :)
