Just installed my True Dual set-up and wow.
Damn guys this system is badass. It took me about 5 and a half hours alone to put them in. To all the people that told me it would sound like a crazy lawn mower, you were right. But i don't care it is sweet as hell. On the first start the FC cold started and damn I almost pissed myself when I heard it. "Lawn Mower" I think it sounds like a small motercycle more than a mower or weed wacker. :D I love that it was almost all stainless but it is going to be gone by the time I go back home except for the "Cans" ,which by the way, are awsome. I want to go out and buy a camcorder to have my friend stand behind the car and tape the flames.:) . Also the kit came with its own ACV block off plate so I saved myself like 20 buxs and I got a cool Mazdatrix sticker, but I don't know if I should put it on or not. Might be Rice.
 Duals     |
So explain your setup! :) What do you have, the RB uncollected race header with the two presilencers or what? :)
i've been saying this for over 2 yrs
couldn't be racing beat I've got full racing (headers, presilencers i.e. no cats. dual mufflers) beats full exhaust system.
It's one of the mazdatrix setups, using either HKS or RB mufflers, and it's basically the uncollected header with two presilencers going to whichever mufflers he got with it. ;)
Yeah it is from mazdatrix. RB mufflers at the back and it is sweet as hell.
I also like the RB cut-out on the headers. and the TRIX etched at the bottom.
I got it just in time because my stock cans were falling apart(literaly). |
ok its all shiny and sounds like a 2stroke. but hows the difference in go?
Jeremy the difference is a hell of a lot. I am afraid to let my steel toe boot go down all the way for fear of having to replace my tires. I was in second at like 2500rpm and gunned it and the tires sstarted to sqeel so I let up a little. But I have only floored it once and then had to slowdown because traffic was thick so I did not want to end up as an FC sticker on an 18wheeler. I will post what happens when I give it a good run after work which is in about three hours. but I like it already.
And post some good video when you get it. I don't want to buy it in January and find out you lied ;)
They have a video of the exact same setup on mazdatrix website, under the racing only category and then exhausts for 86-92 NA
That is fucking awesome. can we cuss on this forum?

Hmmm...I would really like to see your setup and your video (I've seen their video a million times but I want another video because I don't know what kinda quality stuff they used to shoot theirs). Congrats on the new system though!
By the way, I'd watch what you say...despite the fact that we can "cuss" on this forum keep it tasteful or I'm sure you can feel the wrath you...the wrath of the nun-chucks! |
we got to get you on a dyno!
Should have got him on a dyno before and after!
Thats pretty much the same thing I'm running on my car. RB road race header, into 2 pre-silencers, then into two RB mufflers. Dual 2" mandral bent all the way out. Only difference is, I did mine myself. Some day I'll try to get a mpeg with my car on it too. CJ
heh sweet, I want to see some video!
I want to buy a camcorder soon but need to find one that is like 300 or less and good quality. If anyone will donate me one I would appreciate it.:) I still have the stock stuff and the stock stuff off my 88 GXL but I don't think anyone has a Dyno that I know of plus no $$$ to buy the time on the Dyno. I still need to do a lot of stuff to get the car running perfect. Idle problems have come back for some reason and I don't think I have a vac leak but who know. I will try to get a vid of my Blue and grey car that needs body work and paint soon. Don't expect a badass car it needs a lot of work Cosmeticaly and some mechanicaly. If anyone that is going to meet on March 2 in San Antonio would like to donate dyno time I will go for it.

Almost forgot, I drove a little harder on the way home and I see this mid-nineties BMW passing on the right side shoulder and I follow but on the left lane and by the time I get out of traffic he is about 15 cars ahead of me so I down shitf into 4th and floor it. Damn I am really liking the way this exhaust sounds. I guess it is my wierd taste but I love the sound kinda like a big motorcycle. Well anyhow I am doing about 85 and I start gaining steadily and get it to the red line in 4th and shift into 5th and the car was still accelerating. I am not used to that usually I would redline 4th and that was it the race was over unlees we were on a down hill. I passed him and he is like just loosing ground on me. I let offat about 125mph, but then I see the BMW's lights getting closer and he is gaining mad crazy like he had NAWS or somthin but I gun it again and he can't gain more than like a foot. then he lets off and gets behind me and stays about five cars behind me the rest of the way home. God I wish I could still have my cone filter on there. I am sure that would have given me a better exhaus note and a little more pep.
You and your 125mph freeway runs.
I let off cuz I got worried about my tires. I will soon switch to Micheline pilots from my other car. They are H rated so I will be a little bit more comfortable doing these things with those tires.
You redlined in 4th and then gained speed up to 125mph in 5th? Sounds bullshit to me. The over the top switch cuts the fuel curve in 5th for mileage. If you had an a/f guage you'd know that.
Pulling on a mid 90's BMW 318i maybe... Any of the I-6's will school your ass on stock ports n/a top end accelleration. (unless you had been in 4th where you'd be making power on a street port) They have 200lb/ft of torque, and a 6500rpm redline just like you do, with 50 more hp stock. I know exhaust makes a BIG improvement, but you need to be realistic here. My buddies `89 325i with 180hp stock will school a stock n/a 7. (well, stock motor with bolt ons) |

Well.... I did not here the buzzer for 4th so I am not sure where exactly I shifted. but I saw the Speedo at 125 when we were on the last straight stretch. You can either believe it or not. That is your oppinion, but I was in my car and you were not. I did not get to see what model it was. I would not remember anyways since I have like memory lapses and shit so I easily forget crap that just happened ten minutes ago. I really need to get a check up it might be something really wrong with me. Oh well. |

Ok I have had my car up to 135 before this exhaust you all are wierd. Maybe I will give you all a ride sometime. Oh and the buzzer might have been going off but I could not hear shit so I dunno what RPM I shifted at.
190 base hp, 15.8 quarter miles, 2900lbs. If it weren't for the gearing, I'd say it was a lie. But... 325's aren't geared so well. ;) It's possible...
Oh and this was with about 40lbs of tools and a whole bunch of stuff like my books and clothes.Proly like having my girl in the FC but without her going ahhhhhh!!!!!!!
Oh.... And about the 5th gear switch... at WOT in 5th gear the ECU knows better and doesn't run the conservative fuel map.... And yes more than 125mph in 5th gear IS possible in a NA.
If it wasen't obviouse I was being sarcastic. I have had my vert faster than that.
I was refering to Jimmy's comment. ;)
I hit 120 as I hit redline(7k) in 4th and the max I've gone is 130-ish.
I say ish because I understand it may off due to age. As soon as I hit 5th though its a dog. Takes forever to gain. I do alot of highway driving to work so I hit 120 every other week almost. |
I hit 135 in 4th.
Stock ecu (s4) has no idea where WOT is, seeing as the TPS is at max well below half throttle. He's got an `87 according to his screen name.... It does however know damn well when its in 5th and cuts the hell out of the fuel delivery. Bimmers have more torque than we will ever be able to match on 2 rotors. The E36's are a bit tubbier at 3200lbs, but they're also designed to be autobahn cruisers. Top end is where they shine. Weight has less impact on accelleration while in motion. Its more of a problem getting it moving to begin with. |
;) You fuckin better get a video soon
I've seen the mazdatrix vid, but would love to see another of that exhaust. |
yes you all have balls to drive fast...but only on freeways...i hit 130..on a backroad..there was a quarter mile straight strech and i floored it. got to 130 and then breaked like mad for the hairpin coming up...best 7 seconds of my life (at least i think it was 7 secs)
7 seconds and 130mph in a 1/4 mile stretch?
uhm, you sure it wasnt a 2 mile stretch and a couple minutes |
Another cool feature of duals - stereo. The exhaust pops alternate from side to side when idleing.
You fuckin better get a video soon
I've seen the mazdatrix vid, but would love to see another of that exhaust. I will when I can borrow a camcorder. The video on the Mazdatrix site is of it cruising so it is not loud. When I accelerate it is a bit loud but I don't think it is really that bad as long as you like "HOGS". |
I've got a 91 vert and have been thinking about the duals. I have the Greedy Power extreme with high flow cats now. How much louder will the header and duals be? And how much will I gain power wise? I realize "loud" is a relative term so bear in mind that being one of the old farts on this forum, (50+) try to define “loud” in terms I’ll understand.
i have hit like 135 in 5th in my N/A

Ok well since you have a good exhaust to begin with you proly won't see that much of an improvement although you will probably get something. The sound is not "loud" it sounds like a Motorcycle like a cruser type bike like a big yamaha or something. It it does get loud when accelerating fast but when idleing and cruising at a set speed say 65mph it is great only a low rumble. I just keep liking the sound the more I drive it. You will probably like it but it is $,$$$ so think about it carefully. |
Since this is a recent exhaust thread, I'd like to ask a ?:
Which actually can deliver more power? I want a dual set up. I know I can get the mazdatrix header and then have 2.5-3" duals put on <no cats, no silencers >, or is the RB header better, or is the Pacesetter just as good? I did a search and didnt get anything. Just curious if there are any dyno sheets or links that may compare the systems. Thanks |
look at the threads for collected and uncollected primaries (exhaust pipes) and for short and long primary headers. All of them make different power. Not really more or less per se, but different. The true duals make more bottom end pull and the mid lenght collected single outlet header RB sells as streetable is a compromise for "all around" performance.
Ive got a 3100lb car with 160hp stock...uhm more is needed! I could care less about sound, and Florida has no emissions testing. So Wonder what the RB road race headers and some 3" duals would net me? The car may have 120-130rwhp..I would hope for 140-150 with full exhaust, sound feasible?
Where do you want the powerband to be? 3" duals will actually cut your exhaust velocity and porobably kill some torque. Mazdatrix has some really great info on exhaust if you'd just look at it you could learn a lot.
for those of you who want to see what the set-up looks like (besides the one on mazdatrix) here is my true dual exhaust I recived on tuesday.
P.S. its with RB mufflers http://www.mts.net/~tylerh/koichi/racing_beat/01.jpg http://www.mts.net/~tylerh/koichi/racing_beat/02.jpg http://www.mts.net/~tylerh/koichi/racing_beat/03.jpg http://www.mts.net/~tylerh/koichi/racing_beat/04.jpg http://www.mts.net/~tylerh/koichi/racing_beat/05.jpg enjoy! |
Told you it would be a nice setup ;)
Heres some pics of mine if you guys want to see.... http://tworotor7.********/ Nick |
i hit 130 in my 88 se while loaded down witha hatchful af stuff and my passinger seat full of a 20 in tv....and had 500 til redline....altho i am only guessing at the speedo accuracy
