Just installed Crane Hi6, timing?
 

Installing the unit was a cake! In the manual it says the unit might throw timing off a bit. On my first start up the engine didnt sound normal. Instead it sounded like only one rotor had spark kinda like misfiring. Maybe its because timing on the leading(Crane) is now off? After 5seconds of starting the car seems to be running normal as before. I noticed the idle was very soild. Could be the Crane or me cleaning the ground cables. But anyways.. other than the start up. I am very happy with the unit. So.. does anybody else had this problem?

You need to confirm the leadings are firing by pulling off one of the leading spark plug wire boots.

In all honesty, I've found one of the few noticible features on my HI-6 to be better start ups! I followed www.fc3s.org 's write up. Something seems off Simon.

You may want to replace your Spark Plugs too. I mean, with any Ignition Unit applied, you'll be amplifying Spark and working your Spark Plugs all the harder.

I am considering this "upgrade", do you guys think that it is worth the money?

Also did you just buy and install the base unit: HI-6S part # 6000-6300?

I read somewhere that it could improve the milage from 2-3 miles per gallon!

Is this what most other have experienced?

Get the plain HI-6, which is part number 6000-6440, I think.

Hey guys! I think I found the problem. It was my Optima Yellow Top battery. For some reason its very weak. It cant keep a good charge so on start up. It did not have enough power to fire all coils I believe. Which is why after the car started it ran like normal because the alt. starts to do its job. I'm going to replace the battery under warranty and hopefully it'll solve the problem. Keep yall updated... :)

i've got the "s" on mine...easier starts, niticeably more low end power, and a tiny bit better fuel economy....2 years with no problems

i had a msd 6al and i liked it alot, felt an improvement through the whole rev range and got good gas milage. alot of people say it is a waste of money, but i was pleased with what i spent and what i got out of it.

Thats... odd.

Its not like it takes 200 amps for ignition... maybe more like 20, less than a decent stereo head unit. The battery may be a cop out unless its more than 5 years old.

The starter on the other hand will take many many amps, more if its hot or cold... Even so...

maybe check battery drain and see if you've got a parasitic load somewhere?
