How's everyone doing on this fine Friday? Ehh, yea me too. Let me tell you about mine. I'm driving my beautiful 1987 T2, and I hear a few laser guns go off. It didn't take long to realize that they don't exist, and it was my turbo dying. Great.. A little back story, my gauge usually wouldn't go past half pressure, recently, it's been maxing out. Everything ran smooth, there was really no problems, except for this gauge reading. I wasn't sure if the turbo was maxing out the gauge or if the turbo was actually spooling that hard. I added an HKS intake. Sweet, I know. And then this happens. Ok, it happens. Why am I here? I'm looking for some different routes I can take to replace it. My budget delicately sits at around $500. It could easily be swayed, I just set that up with what I could afford immediately. I've been doing a lot of researching FD turbo setups, and what it would take to put one under my hood. I really have no idea what that would cost, as I've been having trouble finding one. Anyway, any project is welcome and considered, I'm just looking for ideas from my trusty RX7 community. Thanks!

If the motor is the stock TII motor, it's not worth being twin turbo'd.

You can buy a good used turbo with under 30k for about $150-200. Or buy a ported s4 turbo to help with boost spikes/creep.

Good choice if you want a bit more than what the stock turbo has to offer without getting too wild. They use the stock exhaust manifold and exhaust housing, with an upgraded compressor wheel and housing (keep in mind you'll still need more fuel delivery and a way to control it.)

BNR for sure with the budget but if you increase boost you must increase fuel this requires bigger injectors and something like an safc but if I were you id go with an rtek you can use anything from a 1.7 to a 2.1 just a not if you go with the 1.7 or 1.8 you will also need an safc but if you go with an rtek 2.1 you can tune from that probably the best way to go

If you're just wanting to keep the performance level that you already have, and just get back on track within your $500 budget, just do this:

You will need to remove your old turbo (not all that difficult) and send it to them so they can rebuild it. As long as it's a rebuildable core you should be fine. If perhaps the wheels or housings are chewed up then there would be additional cost, but likely still close to your budget. If you did it this way, you wouldn't have to spend extra $$$ on fuel system and fuel management upgrades. You can always save up and do that later.

So I send it in to this company and do say, a stage 2 or a stage 3, would a fuel controller be in order to really advantage from the power? Would my stock injectors be able to push harder to keep up or am I replacing all that good stuff? I'm worrying about doing the say stage three, but then getting buried on the rest of the parts to support it. I was planning my TURBO budget being around $500, but really the site sold me on the higher stages. I could afford a fuel controller IF NEED BE. But I'd rather take the project a little slower and work around it for now.
