Just got my engine back, what should I do now?
 
I just got my engine back from rebuild today and the lower intake manifold is pooched (or so I was told) so I have to swap one over from my spare engine.
Anyways, seeing that the lower intake manifold is off, is there any mods that I can do to the engine or intake manifold while its off? I heard something about wiring open the secondaries or 5th and 6th ports or something like that, whats that all about?
Im going to do the TB mod (bore it out or whatever), remove the A/C and power steering.
Also, Im going to be replacing the hoses when I put the engine back in and I hear you guys talk about silicon hoses, where do I get those?
Anything else you guys suggest I do before I strap everything back together?
The engine is out of an '88 GXL and is not ported.

Oh, I forgot to mention, Im going to be putting on a new clutch and pressure plate as well.
I asked the guy that rebuilt my engine if a lightweight flywheel would be good and he told me that they do nothing:confused: I thought they were supposed to help with high end stuff and help the engine rev easier...?

Im all for making improvements, but the mods your talking about are not radical, so build the engine stock.

Check it out.

I bet you'll be amazed.

Wait to see what STOCK feels like first.

And if you're about to say, "well I know what stock feels like" then wait a second....

You bought this car new?
You drove it from the lot?

If you bought it used, then give stock a chance.
I drive a stock car, and its VERY strong.
A brand new NA engine is nothing to laugh at, its VERY powerful....

And dont wire the ports open, fix them so the work.
They are there for a reason.

I think that wiring them open is foolish.
The only people i know that have wired them, are those trying to "get more power" from thier older tired engines.

You have an opportunity to take this new engine, and really see what the car was meant to be like.

If you follow the factory service manual, install nothing more than a better clutch, and stay away from other defeating / engine altering mods.

Its always better to "stock" the engine before altering it, otherwise, you'll chase gremlins for weeks / months / years.

Let me know how you feel about the car when everything the eingineers designed into it is working as it was designed.
