Just as good as original after swap?

Some kid I know was giving me some bull shit about how my '89 auto will not be as fast as a '89 5-speed after the TII trans swap for the following reasons. HE believes the motor was built to be weaker and since the tach reads 7000rpm redline then the motor will have less power. And also he claims a TII trans needs more power than the N/A trans. So he basically said that it was pretty worthless to put that trans into my car because it will be slow. Granted he owns a beautiful '90 TII that sits in his driveway because he can't afford to replace the brakes or insurance. My motor checked out to be running at 100% power and shows no weak seals or compression so why would he have any reason to believe that with a TII trans it would be slower than a N/A with an original 5 speed?

He is smoking crack. There are no additional HP looses to using a R-type (T2) tranny over any other manual tranny.

Now there is some extra weight, but probably it is still less than the auto tranny.

lol I like how you refrained from saying Type R tranny Ice. ;)

That guy is an Rx7 moron.

I think the rearend gears are different between Manual and Auto but that won't matter much.

A tranny is only a method of differentiating the rotations of the drive shaft and wheels from the engines RPM.

He used to be a friend of mine and he is pretty ignorant and doesn't know it. My friend has a FD that runs 10.1@135mph and when I told this guy he was planning on dropping a custom fitted Ford C4 auto so he can drop into the 9's he called my friend a moron and doubted his abilities. Obviously we aren't friends any more because me buying an auto S5 for $1000 thats in almost perfect working condition was a stupid mistake. I was going to drop the 4.10 rear diff from the TII but I was advised to keep the viscous lsd even though it was a 3.90. Not to mention I'm putting in a light flywheel and a straight pipe. Also I was told the TII trans will have a slightly better takeoff and a stronger 3rd gear. Anyways once this motor is toast a race ported S5 TII with a T04 is going in.
