Just curious about a switch...
Okay, so I've been looking at all the interior shots of FCs I can get my hands on, and something some have in common is a switch in the center console. It's the left bezel thingy (whatever it's called) and it's a little rocker switch. My FC has this, too, but it's not hooked up to anything, yet has a current of 0.65 volts when not running and 12 volts when it is. When I connect this switch to the ground and hot leads and turn it on, it blows the fuse for my interior lights.
So, my question is (1) What is the switch normally used for? and (2) What in the world would mine be used for? Oh, and the switch currently is not hooked up. Probably because it blew a fuse, but still, why even bother? |
The only factory rocker switches in the center consol area (just in front of the arm rest) is for the Fog lights on the S5 models

Okay then... Anybody have any ideas as to what the switch might be for then, since it's an S4? Like I said, it's not connected, but when I did connect it, I blew my room fuse. Is this maybe more a matter of what SHOULD be connected, versus what is?

perhaps a picture might help, or some wire colors?

Alright, went and looked at it, and there is a black-slate (blk-slt) connected to a blue-red (blu-rd), and the ground is white-black (wt-blk). The end connector on the blk-slt is the same as the connector used at the blu-rd/blk-slt junction. I think the switch was wired to the blk-slt (it didn't reach otherwise) and of course the ground. And the switch seems aftermarket, just a round lighted rocker that you can get from Radio Shack.

The grey/black with the blade connector is aftermarket as is the one grounded to the scew. Someone probably installed fog lights or an aftermarket security or something

It's not a momentary switch. And if it were that, I definitely wouldn't be asking about it, I'd be using it. |
So, if someone had installed foglights or whatever, why would it be shorting, instead? And, is the red/blue just a hot lead for shits and giggles?
|
Maybe its a botched installation of a flux capacator?
|
if your car dosn't have any aftermarket fog lights on it, the power wire that used to go to it might be shorting to ground. Since it's an aftermarket thing, the only way we could tell what it's doing is by tracing out the wires, as nothing aftermarket is installed by any standard.
(flux capacitor.. bwahahah!) |
