Junkyard Etiquette

RANT ON:

When you go to the junkyard and you remove parts :
1.from a car that still has a decent interior, please roll the windows back up so it does not rain on a perfect carpet and seats.
2. Do not half way remove the door panels and bend them in order to access the Door handles
3. Lower the hood on the car
4. Close the hatch
5. DON"T DESTROY A PERFESTLY GOOD INSTRUMENT CONSOLE SO YOU CAN PUT THE SWITCH ENDS IN YOUR POCKET AND NOT PAY FOR THEM!!!!!!

Remember, others are coming behind you to get parts also.

RANT OFF

Thats ok, I pulled the car out of the yard and brought it home

don't forget:

if you remove several screws/bolts/nuts and/or panels to get at the part you need, leave them nicely on the floor board of the car rather than throwing the screws/bolts/whatever off into the dark resesses of the lot.

I remember having to go to 6 different wreckers just to get a seat bolt once, because whoever removed the seats took the bolts or threw them away.

Years ago, I tried that with a puppy once. Since I couldn't keep it, I found it a home.

Yep, there needs to be some junkyard common sense. Too many people fill there pockets when visiting, whether they buy something or not.
Because of this, there are less pull-your-own-parts places in RI.
I remember having a good 1/2 dozen places that I could browse when I was looking for something.
Now, most of the yards make you wait in a waiting room while they pull the part.
Besides theft as an excuse, they give you the "insurance cost" or "roaming attack dogs" answer when you ask them if you could pull the part.

I am still trying to picture another RX7 sitting in your driveway while you explain to the wife "IT FOLLOWED ME HOME":D

Windows? In cars in a junkyard??

That's the first thing they remove... and usually the cars are stacked 3 or 4 high and you can't even open the doors to get inside.

i think you're thinking of a wrecking yard.....

There is a junkyard near me that made a wall of cars to enclose the back side of their yard. They stacked them 5 high and when the wind blows really hard, you can watch the stack sway back and forth. :)

I totally agree with you, I went to get a door for my RX when I did the paint job about 6 months ago and the interior on the car I got the door from was totally trashed because the hatch was left open, so the carpet was moldy and severly weathered, but not a tear or grease mark in it. Such a waste. Oh well.

Naah, she wants me to fix it up for her. The TII and GFH scare the shit out of her and they aren't on the road yet!

Junkyard Etiquette 101..Let me move to where you guys live where I can freely roam through endless lines of quality salvaged cars and pick out what parts I want..I can't do that where I live..I just want to walk freely by myself and find parts..Take my tools..Pick up what I need and go to the counter and pay for them..In my town..You can't do that..The excuss..Our insurance won't cover you if you get hurt..@SS...If I could do that It would truely be wonderful...That is where I need to start..I would like to just walk alone and not pay overpriced prices..

In Oregon we have a company called U-Pull-It. It's great. They don't charge for screws or nuts or bolts, and you can even return parts that you end up not using/wanting/needing/whatever for a full refund. too bad the location closest to me has only one 2nd gen, and that nearly gutted :(
