Jdm Ftp's
I just aquired a set of JDM FTP's and i know they are supposed to have 5w blade style bulb.. so i got a set of High intensity LED's and they were not bright enough, the guy at the parts counter said there was nothin that is brighter in that type of bulb... So i got a set of 100 watt h3's to put in the FTP lenses muwhaha... its gunna be insane... I'll post pics later I wonder if it will melt the plastic... what do you think?

its jdm yo!
;) (jokes) |
why not put 5watt blade bulbs in?
BTW LED lights are angle intensive/directional. Its why they don't look bright unless you are in their focused direction. In FTP install case, that would be a few inches off the road staring straight at your cars underbody :/ |

So i dont have to drive with my headlights up....or, so the car's light system can be brighter... There are numerous threads about the ftp light write up. Somethin wrong with that? |
It WILL melt them... i put a 18 watt bulb in there and it melted them... DONT put a foglight bulb in them!!!
|
I just read in the other threads Nz... that you dont understand why people would do this to lose their ability to flash people? Yeah... Flashing people around here gets you know where, i have to bust out the pop up lights... Driving in vancouver? God damnit man, good luck with using those FTP's. I've never seen worse driving anywhere in my life. Might as well use them to get some extra light on the roads.

pfft. just get some night vision goggles. and role with those bitches.

LED bulbs would be a very poor choice for lighting the FTP. The maximum angle on the best LED bulbs is only 30*.
Use a conventional 194 bulb, it will be just fine. |
nz, i think you care a little bit too much about this issue. If it doesn't work? whoops! I'll just use them as running lights.

If you dont melt your FTP lenses and wiring harness first. 100w bulbs make alot of heat and draw more power than the wiring harness was designed for. Ive seen 100w bulbs melt the H4 plastic connectors on beefed up aftermarket wiring harnesses designed for high watt bulbs. I've even seen ceramic connectors for sale to fix the melting problem. Use your 100w bulbs and tell us what happened after 2 weeks of use. |
If i do this i will be making my own wiring harness, but looks like i was wrong... Big deal.. I'll just put them in my fog lights...
lesson learned.. |
RICER!! hehe :)

Point noted... Sorry for being hostile....
Not sure how this is going to affect safety tho? If anything it will make the car more noticeable.. Evan |
I was referring to your intention of possibly using these instead of raising the real headlights.
Using them at night in conjunction with the headlights is going to make very little difference since the headlights will be much brighter anyway. You won't be any more visable. Using them as daytime running lights isn't a silly idea at all (I often use my S5 fogs for this), but you could get that effect for free simply by modifying the stock headlight wiring slightly so the lights are on but not raised when the headlight switch is off. There are instructions for doing this on Aaron Cake's website. The light output will be much better, and purchasing overpriced Japanese parts and extra bulbs isn't necesary. http://aaroncake.net/RX-7/lights.htm |
Well, too late.. Already have the lenses beside the keyboard and the halogen bulbs.. But i think i'll just sell the ftps. I've got 2 sets of the conventional
Thanks for the concern Evan |
Smd led's are bright
|
-_-..really? Old bump and yet didn't contribute anything...

if the point was to eliminate the need for flips to have driving lights you would be better off using a good set of USDM FTPs and modifying the headlights to not flip up with the headlights on.
this is as old as this forum, without the need for melting a set of expensive JDM FTPs. i have my FTPs modded to act as turn signals with LED strips, i also have a switch to turn on the lights without the flips for driving lights. neither required me getting some special FTPs to do the job. edit: well i see this thread is old as dirt and the mod i mentioned. |
