JDM fc rev limit question
 

im wondering about the FC rev limit on a jdm turbo engine.

i know that the FD has a rev limit in the region of 8000rpm and im wondering what is stopping me from reving that high.

does the engine itself not have suitable bearings etc or is it simply the stock ecu not being able to keep things in check at that rpm

im going to a microtech lt10s with bosch coils and ignitor pack, will i be able to get it tuned to redline at 8000rpm safely and frequently?

the motor is a standard port fresh rebuild and will prob be running a t3 flanged t70 turbo

It's only reasonable to rev that high if you have the mods to make power there.

As I understand it, you need to have a balanced rotating assembly to run higher than 8000rpm, but as long as you have the mods to make power there, go for it.

My S5 TII redline is set to 8400 on my megasquirt, over a handful of threads that I searched before I set it. That was the consensus of safe rpm in a non lightened/balanced factory-ish engine.

the stock ports run out of breath around 7k rpm
and the stock turbo looses boost around there too
so if you wanna make power up there, port and get a different turbo or a BNR

find a turbo that provides you with an efficiency chart, so you can better pick where you want your power, then match your intercooler, and other mods to where you want your performance. Forethought into what you're putting into your car makes your experience a better one, plus it makes your wallet happy and saves you lots of time.

also, check out other forums than just the microtech subforum, there is a lot of information on the megasquirt/haltech and other forums, even writeups which contain a lot of this information. Standalones are a big undertaking, make sure it's right for what you wanna do, Rteks even allow you to "up" the redline.

Our factory ignition systems are plenty(read powerful), if you don't have to spend the money on the Bosch stuff, don't. Unless it's necessary/worth the cost in ease of use with the microtech
