jdm 13bt w/stock S5 turbo?

I just got an s4 13bt from japan and it said on the invoice that it is an 89'. Well I took off my turbo today and saw that there are two wastegate holes and one big oval-shaped valve. S4 turbo comes with one wastegate hole right, and S5 turbo have 2 holes? It is an S4 motor for sure because the mech/omp and s4 intake, but it looks 100% stock, Is it like a late 88, early 89 model some kind of mixed engine?

Maybe...
You got the knock sensor bung over the T spark plugs?

People in the US aren't the only ones that know you can swap a turbo, you know...

What about the rest...intake, thermostat neck, block, flywheel, etc...there are plenty of s4/s5 markers.

how can u identify from the thermo neck? Give me some markers so I can make sure it's an s4.

metal (s4) vs. plastic(s5) i think is the difference

but not positive

RotaryResurrection 11-05-04 11:22 PM

s4 has 2 bolt metal neck, s5 has 3 bolt plastic. s4 has knock sensor in INT housing by oil tube, s5 has it on the front rotor housing above the T plug. s4 intake upper manifold curves at pretty much a perfect semicircle (like an upside down U) while the s5 sticks up farther and makes a more abrupt turn sort of like an upside down V.

fuck, I got me an s5 then. What do I need for the s5 swap in an s4 then, s5 ecu ,wiring harness?

Thanks for the info

damn ted, nice writeups you got there.

RETed 11-06-04 05:37 PM

Thanx guys...it's something I've been working on for the past several weeks.
Hopefully, when it's completed, I want to have pics showing the differences both both types of models.
