jack points & how to jack

Where are the proper places to jack up the car? should I use a piece of 2x4 or something between the car and the jack?

what is the right way to jack up the car with what I ahve more exhaust installs etc?
Im scared crapless going underneath that thing bc im afraid the car mgiht roll off of the jackstands. is it unsafe to only have the back end lifted at once? (bc the front wheels rolls freely right?)

is there some central point on the front and rear where I can jack? easier than having to do each side...

well if u wanna just jack up the rear u can, but MAKE SURE to put like blocks in front of the front wheels, just so it wont roll forward. Its really a better idea to either; put all 4 sides up on jack stands, or put 2 sides on jack and 2 on ramps. As for the points to jack; in the front look right behind the wheel wells, on the underside of the car. Youll kinda see an aread that looks a lil "beefier" ie more metal etc along the edge of the car, and it prolly already has some lil dents in it from previous jackings. Use that area. Really tho if u wanna do exhaust for i would say put one side up on ramps, i wouldnt trust just the back up because of lack of a real good was to stop the front from moving.........although i guess u could put like a big weight on the brakepedal but that prolly wouldnt work all that well.

how should I do it with only 2 stands and a jack then? jack up the front/back, put in stands and then jack up the back by itself (this is why I was looking for central jacking points)

you can jack up the rear from the differential.

oh and buy 2 more jack stands and set them in place.

if you want to put the car 100% in the air, use four jackstands. don't ever go under any part of the car when you are supporting any part of it with the hydraulic jack.

i just use the frame rails on my car. position it carefully so it doesnt bend the frame rail, of course.

yes, you jack it from the differential.

for FC front, i don't know. on my car you can use the crossmember. the problem with that is the car is too low to get a jack that far under. usually you need to jack it up a bit on the side to slide another jack over to the crossmember.

if you dont have two jacks, just jack the front up one side at a time.

btw, get rubber inserts for that jack, unless you want to put dents into your body.

makes me wonder if this guy should be under his car if he's this concerned about jacking it up.

lol, maybe hes just tryin to be careful, i cant really blame him for that. Trust me, when i was 15 i THOUGHT i new where i could jack my old car up (not the fc, i wouldnt harm my baby like this). Turns out i almost bent the hell out of one of my suspension components, althought i was 15, and it was a honda.

i do this but i to get the jack tha far under the car ill drive onto 2X4s first

I use the position that the manual tells me, but put a shitload of shop towels between the jack and the car because those little frame rail things bend soo easy.. on most fcs I see they are already bent completely into the frame.

If you get around to getting a better jack you will be glad you did. I got the craftsman half aluminum one for around $130 and it lifts much highter, rests much lower, has a much larger footprint and pad, and easily reaches to the front crossmember.

I noticed that on my 91 coupe, the rails would collapse easily when using hydrolic jacks, but on my s4 vert I can put the jack anywhere and the rails hold up just fine.

yeah when I first tried to jack up on the cross member it began to collapse in on itself so I stopped, I didnt even think about putting a piece of wood there!

and yes crappy tire does suck but sometimes its the only place to go.

Ive got a GIANT Rona opening up near me soon though so I imagine ill be able to get most stuff there...

My '87 Sport is a PITA to jack from the side as it has the little aero devices that surround the rear jack points. And jacking from the center front is now a serious pain since the car has been lowered. The "frame rails" are no good either. I know the car is unibody, but it's nothing like the frame rails on my Dodge Dart. Yes, that's right, I own a Dart. I've owned several and this one has a B&M Powercharger on a 360. Since my FC is a track day project I'll probably build a reinforced side jacking point and tie it into the roll cage.

I love the little cartoon mazda ball in the owners manual. i have to have somebody lift up on the bumper so that i can et the jack to the crossmember, but then i can only move the lever like an inch at a time...

I put my hydro jack in the middle of one side, and jack up the whole side at one time..

i was told you can bend the frame real easy on unibodys, by jacking them up by the frame. but i take it its safe by how many of you guys do it.

crossmember or differential... thats me...

and on my friend's lowered FC, I just drive it up on top of some 2x4's to raise it off the ground so the jack can get underneath.

And just buy some wheel chocks - they arent expensive and in my opinion, most definitely worth it considering whats at risk
