i've got $3730 and i need to know what i should buy for HP

what can i buy that will raise HP the most with about $3830 or about $5000 canadian.

DylanShupe 06-16-04 10:23 AM

Save up some more and do a 20b swap.

What year is your car and maybe I can give you some ideas on upgrades.

KNONFS 06-16-04 10:25 AM

Start with a stand alone, from there you can do anything you wish!

Mr. Gadget 06-16-04 10:34 AM

FULL COMPLETE TUNE-UP (if not rebuilding do this first)
Replace ALL fluids

then,
CAI, have injectors serviced, true duals, lightened flywheel with better clutch Thats about 1500, spend the balance on a full rebuild with a professional port job, port match the intake. TB Mod and the list goes on and on and on and on

OverDriven 06-16-04 10:36 AM

Anyone gonna ask him if its a Turbo or N/A?

-Joe

DylanShupe 06-16-04 10:46 AM

I like the 20b swap idea myself.

Jaared 06-16-04 10:55 AM

20b is gonna cost $15k to $20k.. so ummm,..,...

turbo or n/a?

if you got that much and you have a n/a then sell the n/a and get a turbo.

V8 Swap...I'm serious

SonicRaT 06-16-04 02:22 PM

Only 340rwhp on your v8 swap? Damn.... you really need to hop that thing up some more!

Untuned; originally carb was too big; bad distributor :D I will have new dyno numbers in the next month. Notice the torque dropoff in the topend. That should be gone with the 3 fixes to the problems above, thus giving me up to another 100RWHP. :)

SonicRaT 06-16-04 02:43 PM

Damn, I was gonna say something ain't right. With that power you could've just turbo'd it for less and got that! :) Still waiting for my coworker to pop his engine so we can drop in my 355.

RX-7/FC3ScraZ! 06-16-04 06:47 PM

my dad is going to buy me an 88 turbo FC, so i don't have it yet because i'm only 15, but my birth day is in less then a month and i need to know what is the best thing to buy when i get it. i want to get the most HP out of my money.

Icemark 06-16-04 06:51 PM

V8 conversion and simular posts are limited to the Other Engine sections of the board, and not recommended to be posted in the 2nd gen technical section (here)

Save your money for insurance, and for when the car breaks down (which it will do for a 16 year old driver).

I wouldnt do this, Id buy a t2 if you have that k inda money, if you already have a T2, then cool.

Mr. Gadget 06-16-04 07:28 PM

16 = NA, learn to drive (of course I know all about the professional go cart drivers learking out there)

18 = turbo - can afford the habit

or, just be one of my kids and daddy will build it!

88IntegraLS 06-16-04 08:02 PM

If you have a NA, sell it and get a TII and do exhaust, fcd, fuel pump, safc and some dyno tuning. Or buy a V8 RX7, or do the swap urself for more expense.

If you like NAs then block porting, exhaust, and Safc + dyno tuning in that order would be my humble recommendation. Don't forget to get some light stock 15x6 wheels (91 coupe five stars, bbs vert wheels, or Millenia or 929 wheels are all around 12 lbs each).

And have fun!

vaughnc 06-16-04 08:38 PM

For $3830 you could bolt on a complete 7" supercharger kit and have money left over :) This one requires no ECU mods or injector changes as it has it's own built in injectors. I think you might need a larger fuel pump though.

Funny that we seem to support anything else you can cram into a 2nd gen (20b, RE, etc). :jerkit:

:whogives:

Hex7E 06-16-04 09:13 PM

For not I would say learn to drive, you don’t want to have high hp when you start driveling, you will waist your car. i would learn to drive, and while you are at it learn about upgrading your turbo system. Also keep in mind if you want to add hp it will add strain to your motor, which will likely be a high mileage engine. Which means I would get now with a blown engine, put some of that money into giving it a fresh rebuild with RA apex seals, them maybe use some of the left over money to get your self a bigger turbo with an external waist gate, upgrade your injectors and fuel pump, get a safc, and such.

rosey 06-16-04 10:18 PM

If you want the most "hp" from a TII, just buy a T-88, or some other rediculously huge turbo and bolt it on. Then take the pipe on the manifold that is for connecting a wastegate, and weld it shut.

Seriously, learn how to drive before you worrie about how fast your car is....if you just want a lot of "hp" buy a mustang, camaro, T/a, V8 whatever. If you do buy an rx-7 and want to mod it AFTER you learn the basics of driving, then do research on the set-up you want, we can't tell you what you want to do with your car.

No, those generally will get moved as well

NArotaryfan 06-16-04 10:51 PM

just my 2 cents but

id save it for things that break as you drive it and learn to drive it. and as your skills develop and if the car doesnt break at all by then i would put the money into handling
like tires, springs, shocks, strut brace, brakes things like that that seem to get overlooked when thinking about fast cars

...looks like I am not the only one with smarts:)..or was that farts?..save the cash kid....you can't really ask a open question like that anyway...you need to have a goal..always a goal...baby step to it and then set another goal....yadda yadda yadda...how much HP you going for...a TII has enough for a 16 old anyway..hell...a 1980 rx7 will do(CRY-i miss mine

RX-7/FC3ScraZ! 06-25-04 08:06 PM

I was thinking of just geting some small thing to raise the HP a little at first because i don't have much money. i think i'll get a boost controller and raise the boost a little, new injectors, fuel pump, exhast air intake and lowering springs. what you guys think?

87base RX-7 06-25-04 08:48 PM

sounds good have u driven the car yet? are the shocks worn out yet? id personally do handling first id sugest for starters do a racing beat suspension package (front and rear swaybars and 4 racing beat springs for 429$) then kyb agx ajustable shocks 389$ for a set of four, mazdatrix 3pt front strut bar 325$, 4pt rear strut bar from demonspeed 126$, light rims like above mentioned if gotten from a junk yard 15-35$ a piece with new tires (price varyes and depending on what shape yours are in might be needed) and a set of good brake pads run like 15-20$ a set i believe, if rims are 35$ and and brakes 20$ ur at about 1489$ for a nice suspension set up. then take the rest get a nice turbo back exaust, intake, boost controller. if u want the sites for all the handling stuff as in where too get it for those prices i can list them. also u could get a nice x brace for around 600 and get a cf t2 style hood hmm endless posibilities. ohh get the hid style lights off of ebay for 50$ work real nice suposidly (its a full housing and bulb) also whats ur goals for the car are u aiming for a twisty autocross/touge runing type car or a drag strip beast? beacause i favor the handling (love the back roads) and if ur aiming at a strait line car those mods dont quite apply as ur first mods.

Hey, my family don't love me anymore, you wanna adopt me???
j/k, but not really ;)

87base RX-7 06-25-04 09:39 PM

ohh yeah u could just take the money and go too a couple race driving schools. im serious because alot of people can be faster with proper driving instructions and skills racing, lines etc then if u spent the money on parts and didnt know how too take them too there potential safely and without wrecking (been there done that but not in the 7 totaled a 89 probe on my first day on my license grr that sucked). cuz yeah everybody thinks there a good driver till u get sombody else that actually know what there doing get in ur car and make it do things u never thought possible lol

I can't believe someone suggests a V8 swap. I always though in order to be an RX-7 entusiast, you need to remain loyal to the rotary.
Hell if you wanna have a car to do a V8 swap, get an old Yugo that only weighs like 1,400 lbs.
V8 in a 7 makes me nausious.
But that's just my opinion.
:o)

as posted earlier, this thread is not to discuss the merits or disadvantages of a V8 or a V8 in a rotary powered car.

The thread will be pruned of these type replies if there are any more like this.

gnome311 06-26-04 08:51 AM

sorry

SecondgenRX_7 06-26-04 09:44 AM

learn to drive it, remeber its rear wheel drive, its a little different then a fwd car, get used to taking your corners, especially with a turbo. You start boosting in a corner, your gonna loose the back faster than you can blink. Your gonna need tires, when it rains they spin,in the sand they spin, and being young with all your friends, burnouts are inevitable. So save your caash for reapirs and such then start upgrading

GEINN FC3S 06-26-04 02:45 PM

id start with reliability mods 1st like a better radiator and oil coolers up the ass lol. just remember that heat is our most hated friend. i know your gonna drive the shit out of it so you might think about getting a clutch too.

Falcoms 06-26-04 09:48 PM

I would have to agree with most of the other opinions posted here. I would work on some reliability mods for your car, maybe an E-Fan connected directly to the battery and a temp sensor so it keeps running after ignition is off and cools the radiator. Second, go have some fun and learn how to drive your car to the best of its/your ability. If you are looking for sheer HP gains, then look into a Cold Air Box with a forced induction duct and port out your throttle body. Get a header and high flow cat from Mazdatrix and do pretty much anything you can short of rebuilding the engine and going with a 1/2 bridge port (unless that's what you wanna do?). If it was me, I would invest the money in reliability mods, polyurethane suspension bushings and motor mounts, and an E-Fan hooked up as I described. In fact, I am selling 2 cars right now and the money I make is going to do that >AND< Rebuild the engine with a nice homemade 1/2 bridge port!!! YAY!!!

incubuseva 07-01-04 02:07 AM

dude, buy a metro, learn to drive that, beat the shit out of it and you wont care. then when you get your 7 youll know how to drive and wont be as likely to thrash it up. trust me. this has happened to me.... only i didnt have a metro i had a minivan... lol. oh and dont watch things like FnF... they distort your mind and plant bad seeds in your brain.

jon0886 07-01-04 02:20 AM

yeah.... im 17... i just got an 87' TII like... less than a week ago.

I pretty much already know what I'm gonna do.

First - LEARN TO DRIVE! Well - I mean get a feel for the 7. I've been driving for almost a year and a half, so I'm decent (being modest because I know its nothing compared to others out there), but I gotta work on driving stick. power is useless if I can't control it, right? Also - driving stock isnt too bad, only 180hp rated for an s4 TII.

Second - Get a job! Gotta keep the cash comming I wanna keep the car running.

Third - Mods. By this time... I should be able to drive well and know my car pretty well. Personally, I'm gonna go intake/exhaust/fcd/fuel and then off to suspension. I know in my head that I should do suspension first - but speed is just so.... attractive... so just some minor stuff - no porting, turbo and stuff - just enough to satisfy my craving a little.

1SxyRXy 07-01-04 04:13 AM

dont think your car is hot shit like these kids did. this just happend in my town

^^I cant believe i just read all that. I'm not suprised though, most 16yr olds around here act 12, the 18 act 14, the 20 16, and the 30yr olds act 21...
