I've decided!

Hey guys, i'm back. As many of you know, i regret selling my old rx7 like crazy. Now that i've owned an svx and have driven a 1g awd tsi, nothing will ever be the same as the rx7. The driving experience is unmatched. I've decided on my next car. Convertible RX7. It will be NA this year, but next winter, full jspec t2 swap, and about $10,000 in performance parts.

Let me know what you think

Sweet man. I plan on the TII swap this summer in my '86 n/a. Sounds like fun!

eViLRotor 04-04-03 06:17 PM

Dude, you got a bit over a month until the Ottawa 7 meet to buy one. :)

I still have to sneak the TII past emissions, and I'll be set...

Tec 04-04-03 06:29 PM

I hear you bud!

My TII is gone and i'm missing it pretty bad, A 1g GSX would be pretty cool to having all wheel drive, but the drifting in the canyon with the 7 was the awsome.

Hey! There he is! :bigthumb:

You coming to the Ottawa meet, 7 or not? You should! :boink:

Dan H 04-04-03 07:33 PM

Hey, its your money! I'd say go for it!:)

Fingers 04-04-03 07:49 PM

Amur, yeah I'll be there :) I'm coming down with Chris (NOS FC3S) and my gf. I'll probably be riding in the Talon (my gf's car :D).

The main thing that I miss is RWD and the handling. Oh man. What a perfect car. T2Vert, here i come :D

Fingers 04-04-03 08:27 PM

me again..
it's been a while, and i'm no longer familiar with the resources. What are my options for a turbo swap for a s5 convertible, and what costs am I looking at, excluding labour?
I was thinking a s5 t2 jspec engine, or an fd engine... it's going to obviously be more cost effective to drop in a s5 t2 jspec... but if i'm going all the way, might as well make it worth it. And no, i wont be going cosmo :) but thanks :P

The 13B-REW (FD) is probably the most difficult swap out of your choices.

You could go either just 13BT or the 13B-RE from the cosmo. The 13B-REW is also TT, like the FD engine, but you can readily get engine mount kits from places like K2RD.

The 13B-RE also has the largest stock ports out of any of those three, if I'm not mistaken.

Best choice: 20B Vert!!! :bigthumb:

If you want good handling why are you getting a vert exactly? It will have power with the swap, but its still a heavy pig with more than its share of chassis flex.

Amur_ 04-04-03 11:49 PM

Heavy and slow pig, you mean. They put a lot of extra steel in that car to beef up the framework. :(

dr0x 04-04-03 11:58 PM

Are you telling me that the vert chassis is just as stiff as a coupe?

Fingers 04-05-03 07:17 AM

The vert is only 300 lbs more, am I right? Why do i want a vert? For the looks. They look amazing. Suspension could always be beefed up. Chassis flex? Pfft. front and rear strut bars, and some nice ground control coilovers will make it handle like it was on rails.

Fingers 04-05-03 07:19 AM

Does anyone have any sites that detail the swap? As detailed as I can get it.

Secondly, how would one go about modifying the NA harness for the turbo engine? you need to add the boost sensor wire, and lengthen the o2 wire, correct?

88IntegraLS 04-05-03 10:23 AM

A turbo vert would be sweet. I agree, they look amazing and to have some power (TII swap) would make it an awesome package. Go for it!

skyypilot 04-05-03 09:06 PM

Hey, you might take a look at the pic of mine, the link is below. This is the most fun car ever made. Those coupe drivers don't know what they are missing!

skyypilot 04-05-03 09:10 PM

Umm, me again. Why not go with an Atkins Supercharger instead with a 50hp nitrous shot?? Superchargers are much better than turbos for power delivery!! I will be doing mine in the fall...

Fingers 04-06-03 07:57 AM

Once you drive turbo, you never go back. I used to think like you, and thought that a fast NA is everything anyone could want. Trust me, drive a fast turbo car, and you won't want anything but.

Besides, supercharger alone will cost MUCH more than a turbo swap, not to mention lack of availability, and control.
