Iron resurfacing?
 

Ok so I'm building an engine piece by piece, I bought my front iron from a member here and he told me it could be used in a rebuild no prob... But when I recieve the iron I payed for and once I start inspecting it I see a few ridges on the face... They are very small but you can feel them when u rub ur fingers accross the face of the iron:( I don't want to buy a new one if I don't have to considering I already bought it once. I remember reading something in a thread here on something old school rotary guys did back in the day. If I remember right u get the finest sand paper, like wet sanding paper. And u lay it on the face of the iron and put a piece of ply wood on it so it's even pressure and u sand it very softly till u can't feel the ridges. Theoreticly speaking it seems like it would work.. Of any one has any advice or light to shed on this that would be great.

Don't know how well it comes out by hand, but there is a procedure that some of the major suppliers/rebuilders do that is exactly what you are saying. Might not be worth it to have just one iron done though.

Did you inspect it using the procedure in the service manual? Did you measure step wear with a dial indicator etc

no I didn't inspect it by factory service manual standards, I still need to measure it with a dial indicator, but I figured something will have to be done considering I can feel where the step wear is with my finger...

Also if someone could shed some light on the ghetto oldschool way to resurface ur irons that would be great. And what grit sandpaper etc etc thx in advance
