Iriduim plugs and gapping
hey, im the market for plugs for my s5 t2 engine with streetport and to4 hybrid turbo. A friend recomended br10eg, or br10ev. The br10ev is a gold palladuim and br10ev is nickle alloy. While searching I found BR10EIX which a Iridium plug. All are failry simlar pricing.
Which plug should I go with and what kind of gap should I run? |
Dont use the iridium plugs.. they are not all they are cracked up to be just use the OEM style NGK platinum plugs they are more then adequate for the rotary engien in any situation.. from what I understand the oem ignition is not a bad setup on these cars even hen u have a highly modified system

you cant gap them anyway, the electrode is so fine it will damage the plug if you try to gap it.
if it even has a gap-able end on it. |

I wanted to go one step colder, anyone recomend a plug?
HOw many mods and horsepower would a differnt plug be applicable? A guy helping me get my megasquirt ecu setup recomended I get a step colder and brought up the br10ge or ve's. He knows his stuff pretty well. |
I've been running BR10EIX for years and they are great. The iridium electrode does not noticeably wear. The nickel ground strap does wear however(I am using an HKS twinpower). These plugs are not as cold as the expensive NGK race plugs, and also require a modified socket to install. I don't gap them (leave them as gapped by the factory). It sounds as if these would be a good match to your setup.
The iridiums are a resistor type plug which is what you want, while the other B10EGV stuff is non-resistor. My setup is half bridge with T66 turbo on 17 psi. |

Should I get same heat for leading and trailing? I saw on a website that the "R"means resitor type, and the last few letters were for the material type. Some of the other #'s were for size |
That's correct R is for resistor type. I run 10 EIX all around, but have the HKS ign amp. I have run 9 EIX with stock coils(not saying the 10 won't work, just saying what I have done).
If you can handle the annoying tool required to install these then they are great bang for the buck and you should get them. |
Thanks, I think I might buy a cheap socket to grind down. Anyone know a place that sells the tool? I checked mazdatrix, but they were unavailable.
