Internal Wastegate not supposed to have BOV WTF?

Alright so one of the teachers at school called me dumb because I am going to run a BOV on my tII. I told him about it. I was planning on running some stage of the BNR hybrid TII turbo. Like stage 3 or 4. Well I explained it to him about what they do with it and he was like its never going to blow off. I was like "huh?" Then I told him that they internally port the wastegate from 11mm to anywhere to 30-35mm and he was like "impossible". I don't know I'm just a little confused now on BOV. I always thought they were there to relieve pressure and prevent damage to ur engine and turbo. The cool sound is just a plus. LOL Well I don't know someone help em out here....

Your teacher is an idiot.
I would demand a refund for your education.

yeah your teacher seems to be an assclown, what school do you go to?

phoenix7 04-11-07 11:52 AM

sigh. go kick your teacher in the VJ!!:balls:

the BOV is made to relieve the air surge from the Trottle body to keep the turbo from spinning the opposite way(means damage).

the wastegate is the ACTUATOR VALVE in the turbo that keeps it from boosting too much. If you set boost controller to 10 Psi and the car boosts 10.5 Psi then the wastegate will open and relieve the EXTRA pressure.

I would not trust anything this guy tells you from this point on.

The no BOV or BOV debate...lol. It has been argued here before. But I don't think your teacher even understands the concept of what a BOV does in the first place. So, I am sure he is not arguing BOV VS. No BOV. Not have enough to blow off...LOL...maybe if your BOV was as tight as a vigin's panties :P

Not so much that as just to relieve boost pressure to keep the turbo spooled when shifting. Soon as you let off the gas the turbo starts slowing down dramaticly without a way to release pressure in the tubing.

Haha I'm speechless. Tell your teacher he just got pwnt by the RX-7 Club. :ugh2:

Well I explained it to him about what they do with it and he was like its never going to blow off.
If he doesn't know what a blowoff valve is, and you explained to him how they work, and he still doesn't understand how they work, then you didn't explain properly.

A blowoff valve relieves compressed air from entering the throttlebody, it does not bypass exhaust gasses like a wastegate.

That's priceless. :)

But yeah, I agree. What school is this? Teacher's name?

Stuff like this really blows my apex since these people are supposed to be the experts...

asiandude15 04-11-07 05:55 PM

Well I won't say any names cuz I don't want to invade anyone's privacy and he isn't my teacher!!! The Auto Mechanics teacher at my school is more into all motor and he admits his lacks knowledge when it comes to forced induction and rotary engines at all. The auto mechanics teacher is a very respectable guy, don't get him confused with the guy I am talkign about!!! Though I explaind it correct I believe. I wasn't really all into the conversation but I remember he said liek if I am running nothing big so I don't need one. Well I have been doing alot of reading on turbos and forced induction. Like alot, many hours now. I never really got indepth on this stuff when I was younger. But well thanks for the clarification everyone. And yeha I'm pretty sure I'm no going to take advice from him.... Well I never have to begin with. sorry for this dumb thread....

cptpain 04-11-07 06:03 PM

maybe your teacher was thinking about compressor surge lol......

mort2002 04-11-07 06:18 PM

so are you going to run a BOV or not than?!?!

(confused)

My5ABaby 04-11-07 06:24 PM

I went to a school like that several years ago and quit after 2.5 years because I figured why keep going and run up my bill even more when I can quit now. They didnt teach me hardly a thing that I didnt alreay know. Hell I even taught my teachers more than I learned. Sucks Im still left with a $10,000 debt from them :asthanos:

osiris7442 04-11-07 08:52 PM

where to buy that bov noise maker? i must have one in my veedub dd lol

asiandude15 04-11-07 10:07 PM
