is this the interlock switch or the clutch switch?
 

I have an 87 T2

I read all the old posts on clutch switch, and I just want to confirm that the switch with a white plunger is NOT the interlock switch (this must be the neutral switch for the cruise control - notice the missing rubber plug on the clutch pedal)

If so, where in the picture is the interlock switch? Sometimes she does not like to start....

BTW, I can not find a diagram in my 87 service manual that shows the interlock switch (it only shows the clutch switch). Does anyone know where I can find this (or know the part number for the interlock switch?)

You're right, that's the clutch switch (turns off cruise). The starter interlock switch is behind the clutch pedal. I've circled both in your pic.

Red circle is the interlock.

they have to put it way up there!

one more thing guys....can you repair the interlock switch? I mean take it apart and clean up the contacts, etc.... Or should I buy a new one? Anyone knows the part number?

Hmm...May be I should just by-pass it...

The switch has a *pigtail* on it. At the end of that *pigtail* there is a electrical plug. PUll the plug apart, then jumper the two sockets on the half of the plug that belongs to the Front harness. Done. Now you can drive til you buy another switch.

^^^^What he said -- and of course that's assuming that the interlock switch is your problem. ;) But a good test nonetheless -- just be careful leaving it like that.

If you determine that the switch is definitely your problem, then it certainly won't hurt cracking it open to see what's going on. Honestly couldn't tell you what to expect or if you'll find anything repairable -- but like I said, if it's already broke, you ain't going to break it more.
