Interior Tear down
 

Hey, so i've undertaken a little project of my own. Im going to totally remove all interior components of my 7 and rebuild it from the ground up (by interior i mean in the cabin)

When i got it, the carpet sucked ass, and i think there was mold of sorts in the matting underneath in back. The hatch did leak at one point, but the previous owner fixed it.

I think im going to remove pretty much any sound dampening (including all the tar) and put down some Dynamat underneath whatever new carpet i decide on. From what i read on Dynamat's Site the basic stuff only weights like 2/3 of a pound per square foot. Not too bad for weight i say!

I dont know if anyone else uses the same strategy as me, but when im taking stuff apart with a ton of nuts/bolts/fasteners i sort them all in lil ziploc baggies and label them so i can put it back together easily, and hopefully not lose all the small little things like i always manage to do. Sometimes i need to include diagrams, but usually the bolts themselves are pretty self explanatory.

Anyway, anyone who is dissasembling their interior is sure to find ALOT of this stuff! Make sure to set it aside, its the MOST important baggie!!

I pulled the dash as well, now THAT is a PITA without someone to give you a hand.

Haha same thing I did to my car, I found $12 in change. As for the dynamat, you should use peel and seal instead, it's way cheaper at $1 per foot, and it's the same damn stuff. I've used it in my car and it works great.

I'm in the middle of this same sort of project, Mine came gutted with no interior, and I found a T2 today with an almost complete great grey interior. I used a tackle box for all the little pieces.

Is it really the same stuff? It's not heavier or less efficient?

Yes it's the same stuff. It is tar based just like dynomat with an aluminum type side on the top surface. You can either heat it up and put it down, or just slap it down without heating because it is sticky enough. It is actually roofing material but is made of the exact same components and is JUST as light as dynomat. It works, we've both used it to sound proof things, either to get rid of rattles or to use it to lessen road noise.

Click on the drop down menu in the middle of the page, go down to PEEL AND SEAL and it'll come up with the prices and sizes, very cheap! You'll want the one listed as "Aluminum" for cleaner and easier install. Largest aluminum roll they have is 36" x 33.5' which is 100.5 sq ft at only 71.95, not bad :)

The 20B swap bag is so full, you might be able to get the 20 as well as some bodykit goods.

I am so far away from a 20b swap its funny. I am closer to a RE swap. If I come across a 20b on ebay for relatively cheap I will pick it up and have Kevin Landers build me a beast with everything powder coated and show quaility. Just to much shit to do before it. I like the dynamat/roofing material idea. I was going to try bedliner for waterproofing and rust protection.

What I did was contact them and ask what shops carry it around here.

That $72 internet price is better though, its $99 + tax for the 33'x36" (100sqft) roll at the local shop.

That size roll should probably be more than enough to do your whole car, I did the entire rear (from rear seats back) of my Mustang with the 33 sq ft roll, helped a lot. And the weight on that site pretty much agrees with the weight I estimated for how much I used.
