Interesting Turboed N/A on ebay

Just came across this. If anyone knows any more about this car or the kit used on it including pics id be very interested. Im assuming it ran a standalone because its missing the engine harness right now.

That's the VERY VERY old kit made by Cartech, obviously not available anymore, and pretty damned hard to find. What more do you want to know about it? I've got most of the parts of that kit sitting in my garage at home!

Espoc19 11-11-05 12:43 PM

probably isnt but LOOKS like a supercharger

sc0rp7 11-11-05 12:59 PM

its the cartech turbo kit, i believe it uses the stock ecu with a rising rate FPR to compensate for the boost.... it also has the old kamanari body kit on it...

KompressorLOgic 11-11-05 03:10 PM

haha whoa that is weird, never seen that before.... pretty cool, when was that kit made??

Aaron Cake 11-11-05 03:13 PM

During the early years of the 2nd gen. They didn't sell to many since Mazda was already making a turbo version. Intercooler was actually optional. Two versions were produced, one without intercooler and one with. Cartech claimed the non-intercooled version made 230 HP to the wheels, and the intercooled version slightly higher.

that pic. with the overflow for antifrreze is in a different spot? does it not have ps or a/c? i really cant tell?

Aaron Cake 11-11-05 03:41 PM

All '86s have the overflow bottle in that place. Frankly I think it's worlds better then the later style because it makes mounting FMICs a lot easier.

SonicRaT 11-11-05 03:42 PM

A/C only, and it has the overflow tank is located by the fuse block

88rxn/a 11-12-05 02:55 PM

cant believe i never knew that!! doh!

jgrts20 11-12-05 03:28 PM

looks like a supercharger to me!!

Its not that hard to relocate the overflow. I wouldnt even consider it a problem while installing an intercooler.

you guys do know superchargers run off the belt

and only like 2 superchargers use intercoolers

so stop saying its a supercharger

It's easier then having to move it! :)

mazdadude 11-12-05 07:04 PM

My car is an 86 and it has the coolant resevoir up front.

Aaron Cake 11-12-05 07:07 PM

Bloody hell. :) Ok, most '86s I have seen have the overflow at the shock tower. I guess some have it up front. :)

mazdadude 11-13-05 05:39 PM

How rare are those resevoirs? I want one.

That motor has the worst salt/oxidation on the metal that I've ever seen...

NOPR 11-13-05 09:05 PM

i have another 86 with the overflow up front... not sure why relocating it would mean anything though, its a freakin bottle with a hose going into it.

red_ricer 11-13-05 09:21 PM

You know about a year ago I had the chance to buy a GTUs with this kit on it. The guy wanted a $1000 for it and I said sure I'll take it! This was on a weekend....the bank wasnt open......Long story short I didnt get the car, he sold it to somebody else. Damnit. Also the engine had been rebuilt less than 500 miles before.

Check eBay...
Seller genuinemazdaparts sells them BRAND NEW every other week or so.
Auction starts at $9.95.

You will need the fuse holder bracket that has the extra stud to secure it like stock though...

You haven't seen mine then. The chassis is in good shape though, I swear someone let it sit outside with the hood open for part of a winter or something.
